group head shower screen holder damaged does it matter?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have a San Marino Compact manual machine and have just been changing the group seal. While doing this I noticed that the group head shower screen holder has a chip out of the side. I assume that this was done while being serviced previously as this is the first occasion I have changed the seal myself. My question is, is the chip in the group head shower screen holder important? That is, do I need to replace it or does it make no practical difference to the production of good coffee? I have included a picture for reference below. The chip is 1.27mm deep and 6mm wide.

While it probably will have negligible effect on shot quality, it would be a very cheap part to replace and its always worth your while keeping the machine in good condition. It will have created a weak spot in the part, which with repeated heating and cooling cycles will likely start to crack.

IMHO, either replace now, or at least order the part and have it ready to replace when necessary, rather than risking downtime. ;)

I agree with keeping the machine in good condition, but this part is about $46.00 delivered from one of the august site sponsors. (So I am thinking thats not really cheap to replace). Thats why I was hoping its not consequential to good coffee making. But I will certainly replace it if someone confirms that it will affect the machine or coffee if I dont.

    many thanks for your comment.

Shouldnt do any harm, but you might get a jet of water spraying out through the gap if for any reason your showerscreen was allowed to block up.

Many thanks for the advice(s). I will just keep going with the existing shower screen holder for now.
