    Any significant difference between....

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have narrowed my search for a new machine to the Giotto PP, the Vibiemme Domobar Jnr. and Diadema JE.
Apart from minor price differences are there any real +points of one over the other...warm up speed, drip tray efficiency, performance etc.
I basically prefer to drink espresso and wife and friends more milk orientated.
Thanks and hope I get some replies to help my decision making.
Ooops and yes I will be visiting a local showroom to test run....but need some feedback from this knowledgable forum.

1.Giotto is the most popular - and quite sexy. a good alrounder.
2.VBM Domobar Jr is well made - heaps of steam which can be somewhat daunting.
    3. Diadema is meant to have the best external finish, although I have never seen one. Good drip tray.

All very good machines. You have narrowed down very well *;)

Cant go wrong with any of them. Go and have a play and choose the one you feel most comfortable with.

There are slight price differences between them too, mainly due to capacity and boiler size. Some are bigger than others and the diadema comes in 2 boiler sizes. So looking at cheapest 2500 - most expensive 3000.

    Hope this helps

Hey Bennett, thanks for your prompt reply and thouights on the issue.
My preference before trying was at this stage the Giotto, but had heard plenty of good stuff on the other two.
Will be interesting to have a play on the three of them if possible.

There are some reviews of those machines on this site, and they are all good machines with some differences. A search (ensure you set the date searched to a good long time--the default is only one week!) will get you to the reviews quick smart.

Once youve read to your hearts content then the visit to a sponsor to see and try will give you the answer.

    Have fun.

    Welcome Elspeth..... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

In reality, all of the machines in your short-list above are darn fine machines. In design and build quality terms, I would put the Giotto PP and the Diadema Junior Extra on a par, with the VBM a close second.... There really isnt a lot in it to be honest.

The best thing by far, if possible, is to visit one or more specialist coffee hardware retailers such as one or more of our esteemed Site Sponsors listed over on the L/H side of the page. That way, you will be able to get some hands-on experience with some Demo machines... Seeing and using these machines (and a very good grinder) is the only way to truly identify which of the machines in your short-list you would be happy to live with.

Dont forget to mention that you are a CoffeeSnob member as this will ensure that you get the VIP treatment 8-).... Heres the link to the page where most of the machines are listed and reviewed.... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1163234999

    All the best,
    Mal.

Im in shopping mode so Ive been looking over similar machines ... and less expensive mahcines, it has to be said ... the major difference b/w the 3 youve listed is the footprint ... the VBM Junior has a MUCH smaller footprint than the other two.

Thanks for your input coffee shot....I had checked the footprint of each one and all fit into my bench layout OK.
At this stage I am definetly leaning toward the Giotto and the Diadema JE.
Hve yet to test drive any of them, so will continue the R & D steadily.

    Hi Elspeth

Good to hear you are doing your homework. *Either machine is great - but dont overlook your grinder.
You can be very disappointed if you are not able to produce a good grind for the machine.
I know you have not mentioned it in your postings - but not thinking about a good or adequate grinder can be an error many of us make.
We take an excellent espresso machine home and are disappointed with the results:

remember good in god shot out..... *(was a typo - freudian slip)

    Hi Elspeth,

    We sell all three.

All will do the job really well with a great grinder, fresh beans and good technique...

There are aspects of all three which I would change if I was designing them and Im happy to run you through them if you like. Mobile is best...

Ultimately, you should be delighted with any of them and the limitations are minor quirks...

    Happy shopping!

    Chris
