    ECM Technika accessory recommendations

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi,

Could you please recommend me a generic tamper station? The official ECM version is $100 and i am not keen on spending another $100+ for it.

Also does any generic e61 bottomless pf baskets fit the ecm pf?

Site sponsor Coffee Parts has a few for significantly less money:

There are a couple of site sponsors who sell generic and genuine ECM bottomless filters. I tossed up and bought the genuine for my Rocket Giotto it was only an extra $10-$15.

    https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/parts...-filter-basket $79 generic
https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/rocke...ocket-machines $89 genuine Rocket but might need to check if this fits your ECM machine

I bought the genuine one above from Coffeeparts and it is nice.

I have this tamping mat and find it very good.

I have an ECM bottomless PF and use a couple of non-ECM filters without problems.

I use this tamping block I made up about 10 years ago, wouldn't be without it.

You can customise similar to fit any portafilter you like.

Just join your local men's shed and make one for peanuts. There'll be plenty of blokes around who will advise, or help you, if you're a bit unsure.

So today I have picked up a generic bottomless portafilter and the 4 hole steam tip.

The PF appears to require an extra gram or two of ground coffee for the basket.

The four hole steam tip works a treat and i could lower my pid setting back down to 121 and maintain the fast steaming. It is a little harder to work with but not far from finding the initial starting position.

What makes you say this? The basket is what determines dose, the portafilter should play no part in it. The only thing that changes with a naked PF is that you see the coffee sooner, so if you're going off time to the first drop don't change anything for the naked, you'll probably see it about 2s sooner but the rest of the shot should be the same (including finish time). Any other changes you're noticing are now visible but were always there hiding behind the spouts.

yes i meant the basket of the naked pf.
im not sure if it would be any different if i bought the ecm version but after i tamp with the regular ground ~18g it seems to fall short of the recommended dosage line of the basket

Bottomless portafilters often come with a triple shot basket (mine did when I grabbed one for my Rocket), just swap in the basket you are used to which is probably a double shot basket. It takes a while to get used to a different capacity basket as the required dose of coffee is different and the basket holes can have quicker or slower flow rates, depending on their precision/size.
