    Talking Machine upgrade

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello Everyone

    Its time

Currently using a Miss Silvia v5 with A Mr Rocky.
Wanting to upgrade Miss S with a HX and a budget of 2k and keep rocky for now.

Was looking at a Isomac tea due and a Vibiemme Domobar Junior which is a few hundred more

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

    Many Thanks

Are you after an E61 group specifically? What's your usage like? Where are you located?

Vibiemme is releasing an upgraded range soon so wouldn't really look at the old Jr model now unless you get a massive discount.

ECM Classika might be worth a look if you're not hung up on simultaneous brewing/steaming. You get PID brew temp control at the price for the small inconvenience of waiting a minute or so to steam.

The last Tea I saw (new in early 2019) was supplied without thermosyphon restrictor and ran way, way hot. In addition the OPV was not set and would allow the pump to stall at 14Bar. Plastic brew microswitches have also proven to be flaky and I'd replace it with a metal roller version.

The VBM Domobar Junior contains good bits, badly packaged and they have created nightmares for many a tech and nasty service accounts for some owners. I'd be waiting until some of the resellers get the opportunity to look inside and evaluate the layout. If they're just a facelift the issues with the junior may not be resolved.

    Not at all...

An espresso machine is much more than the particular group used.
The BZ-10 has been engineered to deliver excellent espresso through the design as a whole, not just the group, which is excellent by the way.

Best thing (if possible) is to try and have a demo of a couple of different machines 'on premises' of a reputable specialist retailer, such as any of our Site Sponsors, using the same grinder, same coffee and same operator, then make up your mind from there. Would be very surprised if you could detect a defective result from the BZ-10 in this scenario...

I'd rate both the BZ-10 and the Expobar Leva above the Isomac...

Expobar is also due to be replaced with the Crem One range. Having seen inside the new models, I'd be holding off unless the leva was being given away. Old ones will devalue dramatically IMHO. There is way too much which is good about the Crem range.

I've just taken delivery of the new Crem one dual boiler and although its only day 3 and I've not had much time using it, I've been impressed so far. It's not the high end profiling one, that was just out of my budget.

The HX PID version should go close to budget though...

These are certainly a BIG step-up from the original Expobar range of machines.
Can't wait to read some real world experiences by CSers who are lucky enough to own one.

    Hi Krappo,

If you want E61 (for mechanical preinfusion for example) you could consider the compact Lelit Mara 62S. Do you want HX specifically (as opposed to a Dual Boiler)? The Lelit Elizabeth is a dual boiler, temperature stable, adjustable PID, programmable pre-infusion, timed shots ...

The HX PiD version is selling for 1195 in the UK, not sure how that will differ when available in Aus

There's extra freight involved, but I'd guess that RRP would be circa $2.5k. I recall the importer was talking up January stock, so hopefully we won't need to wait too long to find out.
