    Brazil Bourbon Bold

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Roasted 300g. Stopped roast when heard the first snip of SC. Rested it for 7 days. Very low acidity and body. Very smooth. And it lingers.

From my point of view, it is not an interesting bean. May blend it up with some costa rica~~

Totally agree with you Tony on the flavor part as all I got out of it was Peanuts/Nuts at FC+ and a bit of chocolate at Vienna. However I think this bean will be great as an espresso blend base as the mouth feel is incredible, unbelievably thick Viscosity.

Add some bright Central American and Flavorful Ethiopian and I think we could be onto a winner here. ;)

Aah and I thought it was just me.

I bought a couple of different beans in the last beanbay and set out on my roasting odyssey using the Brazil bourbon bold. I found it had nice mouth feel, but incredibly dull in other ways.

Of course, using a popper and having no idea what Im doing, thought it was just me.

yes I agree dull in some ways. But what is there I think is really good. smooth, nutty, light choc. Yes agree the aftertaste goes on and on. At 2 days, the aftertaste goes a bit unpleasant after a while, but I expect this will be better in a couple more days. I used to drink a fair bit of another brazilian and it was so similar to this. I find this coffee disappears in milk.

Actually, I think Im revising my opinion of this bean. I just had some 7 days post roast. This time I roasted darker, but heard no SC. I actually thought the roast had stalled due to my meddling with the popper.

Incredibly complex, floral, chocolaty, very little acid, but incredibly sweet. A very polite bean, rather than something that smacks you in the mouth. Would make a nice long black methinks.

I just had it as a ristretto, then an espresso to compare....and then another ristretto (I had to remind myself I wanted to sleep tonight and stop there).

The pleasant aftertaste is still lingering

Complex? Hmmm... thats not normally a word I associate with dry processed Brazilian. Can you post your roast profile? if you have one.

I do Agree with the rest, Floral? Hmm... yeah probably a bit of Floral Aroma but I didnt get it in the cup.

roast profile? hah, Im using a hacked popcorn popper. FC was around 4:30, then silence for another 15 minutes, no SC heard.

Yeah, I found it complex. First impressions led to different flavours the more I sipped.

certainly light years from the roast I did earlier which left me very disappointed.

at a City+ roast (stopped shy of 2nd crack), I get a nice jammy sweetness in the cup with this brazil. quite different to other brazils ive had and im guessing this is due to the processing of these beans that andy talked about.
