    Sulawesi Rante Kapua Torajah

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Found the best roast to be with a drying period at the start and pulled at the first sounds of second crack.

Sweet with a syrupy body. Chocolate, earthy with hint of spice and fruit.
    Loads of flavour.

Very very nice as a black plunger coffee.

hi bassway, what sort of resting period did you have for this? all i am getting is a rather smooth and lovely shot, but none of the spice that i was hoping for. mind you i havent tried a range of different roasts, just 1 where i let it go to 2nd crack and another where i pulled it before second crack. i think i will try a slower ramp to first then really slow it for the remainder.

Around 5-7 days. I also get a very smooth shot. The spicy fruit is more of a hint not a full one flavour. It also comes at the end of the taste not up front. This is all of course what I taste.
I also find that this bean is best in french press.

Roasting this bean takes a lot of heat. * Without actually trying, at my usual roast size, I ended up with a very slow ramp after about 160C, and a VERY gentle rise from first crack. *Roast time was about 3mins longer than usual. Pulled it prior to second crack, which gave a light-med colour, slightly uneven roast.

Aroma from the bag was slightly nutty (reminded me a bit of the sipangan bolon), with what I reckon is a bit a meaty hint to it.... * I quite like the aroma but found it difficult to pin it down and describe it.

The shot was full bodied, no acidity, earthy, woody, some sweetness, and a bit of the dry flavour like you get from PNG Wahgi. * I couldnt pick the cardamon, but theres definetely some spice there; *kind of a savoury note, but very smooth and everyone that I gave some too, loved it. * *Great as an espresso, and fantastic with milk.

After heaping praise on the Haiti grand cru, I have to say I really like this bean, and at half the price I would be hard pressed to choose one over the other.

Shame theres none left... * :(

As an espresso- disappointed. Lots better indos around for this (like Aceh). Tasted a bit hollow and the aftertaste almost unpleasant.

Same roast in Aeropress - one of the best I have had.
