    When to drink Monsooned Malabar?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
What is the optimal time to leave Monsooned Malabar to "rest" post roast, before it is consumed?

Re: When to drink Monsooned Malabar?

When i first roasted this stuff, i carried out my usual.....taste within a couple of hours then everyday after........finished by day 8.

I had bought 3kg of it and was very unimpressed, then i saw a thread saying leave it for a least 10 days, so i roasted to first snaps of second crack, left it for 10 days, tasted......still unimpressed, forgot about it, tried at day 15...........WOW, beautiful! it was good till day 20! Great bean, one of my favorites!

Its not everyones cup of tea(pun intended)with a slightly earthy choc caramel if left long enough, it smells like old socks and undies unroasted, and burnt socks till day 8 ish.....then it releases its beauty!

    cheers

Do we really need another poll for this? *:-?

Best bet is to try it from sat 2 days post roast until its all gone. I reckon its about when you think its best, rather than the opinions of anyone else....No??

    I had a laugh @ Yuk. :)

It couldnt be my daily drop thats for sure but i give it to all the staff at work and they love it :-?

I find it best at around days 10 - 18 then it starts to go drop off. Still drinkable at day 30 if kept well though, maybe even longer?

I like to roast it to the cusp of secong without hearing any snaps od 2nd at all.

Much the same as has already been suggested..... 8-)

Dont usually crack a bag open until around the 2 week mark (normally blended with other beans) but as has been suggested, I arrived at this delay period via trial and error.... tasted after two days then every day after that ;)

I would be interested to know if the people who like it have it in milk? I remember it cutting through milk drinks very well and getting some of the flavors described as favorable.

But as espresso,I always found it a bit :P

Maybe I should revisit it. I dont think I ever got past 12 days rest.

This would have to be one of my best beans if left long enough. Dont touch it for at least seven days. Before that, for me, it first tastes like a mouthful of stale potpourri mixed with wood shavings..! Eeekkk.

I never understood why people liked this one until I "lost" a bag and didnt find it until it was two post roast.
It was starting to taste better (to me).

As I have only roasted this bean recently for the first time
I have come to the conclusion that this one tastes good from day 8 to day 14 and beyond as I am still drinking the last few grams

Its a love or hate bean and I love it once in a while at toward the two week + mark call it type aribusta ;). Tried it in a few blends but it was still overpowering them.

My latest roast--CS 9 and before 2nd crack is making the best sweet fruity ristrettos at day 3.

As others have indicated above, I also rarely open a bag of MM before day 10 post-roast. Makes a really lovely cuppa from then on and is great in a blend too.... 8-)

Just found out about the 10 day rule myself, been trying it every couple days and its now starting to shine at day 10 post roast, any time before that and it tastes overoasted and unpleasant

And ive just made the discovery of cutting this one with the indian robusta at around 75 / 25 it goes down really nice as a morning coffee, nice smooth flavour from the monsooned with the robusta giving it a nice subtle lift

Think this would cut through milk with minimal fuss, but havnt tried myself as im not a big milk person at home

Re: When to drink Monsooned Malabar?

I gave mine a nice slow ramp up & started enjoying at about 8 days post roast. Needed a much finer grind than anything before it but its been my favorite home roast to date. HUGE crema, really thick as you pour the milk through (rather than into as you do with other coffees).
Just wish Id bought more :( hmmm... wonder if reserving an entire bag is possible ;D
