I roasted some a week ago and have just tried it - I agree with your description. It has a very strong cocoa flavour with as you said acidity. It has a lingering aftertaste which is pleasant and makes one reluctant to eat or drink anything to reduce the flavour. Definitely a great coffee.

Its one Im keen to try if it shares similarities with the PNG wahgi I got from brown bay a while ago.
It was by far my favourite and I think it may be due to the acidity, although I dont have an educated palate.

out of interest where you guys roast it too?..i took it to the very first pops of second then stopped. i remember something Andy said to me on pick up day about keeping this bean lighter rather then darker.

    Yep,

Most beans from this region of PNG reveal their best when taken just to the edge of Second Crack (SC) or shorter. They quickly lose a lot of what makes em special as you head further and further into SC.... IMHO anyway ;)

Ive been enjoying the PNG lately, I used to go into second crack with PNG but after reading hints of stopping roast just before or at start of second has improved my taste experience the PNG and they smell amazing while being ground!!

Just had a cup of the Jiwaka with the Aeropress. 1 day rest... I know its a bit short for espresso but OK for the aeropress.
Taste like a mix of good Mandheling and Columbian, has the earthiness of the Sumatra with the acid of the Columbian.
Body is not as heavy as the sumatran. I didnt detect much origin flavour but as MAL mentioned I probably went a bit too deep, roasted to just before rolling 2nd crack. Big potential as a blender bean with the lower end flavours.

I took it to CS 10. The bean had a herbal/tobacco flavour (very pleasant) at 4 days post roast and by 7 days it was developing a very full cocoa aftertaste. I unfortunately had the last yesterday. I found it gave a real hit in the mouth with flavours in the first mouthful, but in the overall flavour department it compares well with the Waghi AA. But a bigger first impression. I think it would be good on a lighter roast but not to much lighter. :)

Just hitting the peak of my first roast of the Jiwaka. My notes say it is now 10 days old, roasted to just before second crack @20mins (214*C in the BM).

Very impressive pour with lots of crema. In the cup it is a nice balance of caramel/chocolate notes with lifted citrus zing. Cuts through milk well in a piccolo latte.

A great bean which just adds to my overall enthusiasm for PNG coffee.
