  • New coffee machine - coffee tastes yucky!Help pls

We have just received our new Gaggia Baby. My husband was excited to make the first coffee this morning. But it tastes terrible! The actual coffee was OK, but then the frothed milk from the machine tasted plasticky.

Should we just run water through the machine a few times, or has anyone got any other tricks to help us make that yummy coffee! Thanks in advance.

Giving it a bit of a flush through with clean, filtered water might help.

Are you sure you arent overheating your milk? Should ideally be between 60 and 65°. Anything 70° or higher may taste burnt. Buy yourself a milk thermometer if you dont already have one

      thanks Flynn_aus.

It has a funny taste - not really burnt. Just tastes quite plasticky. I think the flush through might help. Will try that with my husband tonight. Thanks.

Overheated milk doesnt taste burnt - it has a taste some might describe as rubbery.

You said the coffee was OK so it suggests the steamed milk is the problem. Are you purging the steam wand before you steam (ie open the steam tap until the steam is dry usually about 30 seconds or so).

          Thanks Flynn_aus

My husband is the coffee maker, so I will ask him re: the purging the steam wand before he steams. We had the Gaggia Deluxe (which died on us), so perhaps the new machine needs to be used in a slightly different way and he needs to adjust how he is doing it.

We will try again tonight and let you know how we get on. Thanks again for the advice.

Im not sure that flushing through your husband will fix the problem.
Threatening him with it though may make him concentrate a bit harder.
