  • Where can I get Hawaii Kona & Jamica Blue Mountain

Simply want an internet site that I could get FRESHLY ROASTED Hawaiin Kona and Jamican Blue Mountain without the stupid and ridiculous pricings I have seen on 1 site which was 1 kg $320!!!!
Reasonable would be more around $100 for 1kg of either one.

    appreciate it.

    JBM -

    $100 per kilo green
roasting loss is circa 20% weight
    makes it $120/kg roasted

If you were buying a whole roast batch then you might get it a $240/kg

If the roaster spent 30 minutes roasting 5kg ($500 cost + time) to produce 4kg of roasted coffee so you could buy 1kg how much should he charge you?

What should the roaster charge for the time roasting, packing, freighting etc?

What if the other 3kg doesnt sell before it goes stale?

The reason we (and most roasters) dont offer roasted JBM is that we would want $300/kg to roast it too and that MIGHT break even!

    As for the Kona...
You can get Kona for $100/kg from Jasper Coffee.

Dont know about JBM, but there are a number of coffee farms in Kona that have their own websites and online stores.

I have no idea where you are based, so postage and exchange rate are also up for grabs.

      For Kona coffee, try
      http://www.greenwellfarms.com/
      http://www.konamountaincoffee.com/
      http://www.konacoffee.com/
      http://www.konablueskycoffee.com/

      and google.

Or I could roast the 500 grams of green Kona I have left and sell it to you for $50 + postage ;-)

PS: looking for a "website" offering based on price will surely mean that you run the risk of getting "fake JMB or Kona"

Make sure yuo can trust the person selling you the beans to sell you the right beans!

Just a query from the uninitiated :

That seems fairly pricey. Is it just a supply/demand thing? Can these varieties not be grown elsewhere in similar climates/conditions, or is it a bit like (real) Champagne having to come from the region in France?

And lastly, does the coffee warrant the price tag, for those that may have tried it?

Re: Where can I get Hawaii Kona & Jamica Blue Moun

well I used to live in Japan until recently. I would have 2-3 cups of JBM or Kona every day because I liked the taste. Like Kona the best.
Over there 2kg FRESHLY roasted Kona costed about $185 . Likewise 2kg Blue mountain was about $185 as well. And 2kg Colombian Supremo was about $60.

So guess we are being raped huh???

Are these prices normal for Japan? or normal for JBM/Kona?

Maybe Im showing my ignorance, but why would you pay that much for every day coffee? Yes, its nice to have some expensive coffee once in a while (CoE, La Esmeralda, Monkey parchment et al) but as a daily grind...either too much cash to splash or no other choice.

Now, wheres my bottle of 1955 grange? Im thirsty....

Sorry, I used the 55 Grange in a stir-fry.... I think there is half a bottle of cooking sherry somewhere though.

I remember reading that the Kona coffee board were trying to mandate how much Kona should be in a blend to be called Kona. For a while one bean in a tonne could be called "Kona blend"... the amount currently stands at 10% and the push is for 75%.

At 10% you might get 4 or 5 Kona beans in an espresso shot!

As I mentioned previously, at the pointy-end of coffee you REALLY have to trust that what you are paying for is what you are getting.

                    lol

They are pretty normal for Japan. All South American, African, PNG and Indian beans can be bought for about $50-$60 2kg.

And the prices for JBM and KONA are pretty standard there.

I like KONA because of the taste. I find it smooth, aromatic, velvety. To date a I havent found anything like it (its not a strong coffee) I used to drink JBM when I wanted something stronger and the strongest (usually wake up shots) Colombians.

If you consider having JMB in here at ridiculous $300/kg figures similar to Kona   then youve got money to burn.

Would be interested to know if theres anything as smooth and velvety as Kona.

Trust me. Over there its pretty straightforward. Blends are much much much cheaper. JMB blend off the shelfs were about $10 for 1kg or freshly roasted JMB blend about $25.
Those prices are considered expensive in Japan hence they are the best and hence you pay for it. Majority drink either drip coffee or instant, but theres a growing populace of mid-high class earners wanting better. Online place I used to buy it from had all the paperwork and certs and photos etc to prove it and besides I had called some of the places and they checked out.

Re: Where can I get Hawaii Kona & Jamica Blue Moun

At $300 per kilo, anyone would have to be a marketers dream to fall for that. I would rather have 3 good $100 buy-ups at bean bay green and end up with 25 kilos of superb coffees from around the world that would last me almost a year! Looks like the CoE pack currently on offer in BBG is a far better proposal given that they have actually been judged as high quality, not just marketed as such. I dont think i could trust an unknown online store when paying this much for a roasted coffee, just too many dodgy operators on the net and the fakes would, unfortunately, outnumber genuine operators. Fancy websites and packaging are easy and cheap for anyone to create these days. Even if you could tell that you werent drinking the JBM you paid for, who would you be able to complain to? I plan on using my hard earned supporting people like Andy who are providing a top-notch product and excellent service at extremely good prices, not to mention supporting Fair Crack.
                        Just my opinions, cheers,
                        James.

Jasper Coffee sell it roasted. $99 per kilo plus postage
They claim that it is the real McCoy.

I have tried it, it is definitely their best coffee. I havent had Kona any where else so.....who to say?

I have found Jasper pretty good. Have had one bad batch. Had to clean out my grinder three times to get rid of the tatse.
Their 250g bags can sometimes be hit and miss for freshness. The 1 kg for me have always been fresh. But overall pretty good. I would trust they when they say that it is the real deal.

And watch out for the $99/kilo plus $10 postage, commit? Are sure to commit?
The final price $99 +$10 postage +$6 handling. Only adding handling after you commit. Bastards!

Oh that right its where do I find, not comment on supplers. Sorry.

have seen JBM and Kona at Simply Coffee here in Adelaide, not sure if that helps you or not as I cant remember the price (have had JBM elsewhere and it made a really nice coffee, but no better than a Double Roast Colombian for $35/kilo)

On a similar note, would love to get my hands on some Kopi Luwak...
