  • White Hot Chocolate Drink

My wife does not have cocoa based hot chocolate or eating chocolate in general (all the more for me )

However she does eat white chocolate

I want to surprise her and make her a white hot chocolate drink
It has to be so good that she asks for a second

So I was wondering if I should shred some white chocolate and melt it down adding hot stretched milk

Or is there a quality brand of white chocolate powder  available

However if you have an old family recipe that is to die for ? then I will give it a go

My taste buds are waiting to be willing testers

    Hi KK,

Rather than looking for crappy white choc powder, find some Valrhona Ivoire White Chocolate or some white couverture from your local fine chocolatier....

Grate or hand shave it, and texture in the jug. The results will be far superior.

Hmm, I dont usually go for white chocolate, but white hot chocolate has me intrigued. My partner likes white chocolate so perhaps shed like it in hot milky drink form too. Maybe Ill try to source some of this Valrhona Ivoire...

Have to add to the "dont buy the powder" suggestions, I have tried a few and they are expensive and very average.

          Hi KK,

what a lovely fellow you are

I found this thread soon after joining up :  http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1211262053/12#12

Ive been making my wife hot chocolates with Old Gold 60% cocoa block choc--about 6 squares. I place it in the bottom of the steaming jug and add milk then place steam wand at bottom of jug and dissolve the chocolate and then texture the milk, it makes a lovely hot chocolate and bonus antioxidants!!!!
This definately works with the OldGold (I roughly chopped it before putting it into the jug) so Im sure it would be just as yummy with a good white chocolate

I have been doing my hot chocolates with my steam wand for the last 6 months or so.
(Breville Cafe 800 series (I know, a small slow steamer))

The texture does come out noticeably different from plain milk.  The milk stretches less and doesnt hold its foam as well.  It is not worse, just a little different to work with.

I have used chocolate powder, chocolate flakes (Lindt), grated chocolate (many kinds), Lindt Lindor balls, and granules (Green and Blacks).  They all work.
Though Lindor balls can be seen to be a bit excessive.
Havent tried this yet, but the Lindor balls sound deadly

Ill look foward to hearing how it goes.

          -Carrie

OK I will rule the powder out

Lindor balls is what she eats now

Lindor might be the way to go first up 6 balls per drink should be Moorish?
while I search for the Valrhona Ivoire White Chocolate

She also likes caramel so I may try to conjure up a signature drink using white chocolate liquid caramel & espresso ?

            Sounds delicious

That wouldve made a wicked hot caramel...

                Re: White Hot Chocolate Drink

White hot chocolate is also called heart stopper. I dont think it works thru milk. Because it is already a milk chocolate adding it with milk will make it at around 5 percent chocolate. Its just fat and sugar she will be drinking. Best to buy great white chocolate as a gift to eat. The white chocolate blends are usually all sugar. I would say its triple the calories as a normal hot chocolate

A family member of mine who cant each normal chocolate (migraines) can eat this:

                  http://www.sweetwilliam.com.au/products.html

                  Its a dairy free chocolate.

Here is a quote from their site:
"I normally get headaches when I eat chocolate, will this have the same effect?

Our experience shows that people who get headaches from eating regular chocolate do not get headaches from our Dairy Free Chocolate range."

The Tangerine flavor could do a Jaffa Hot Chocolate

Thats a big call. Ive never heard that before. Your cousin should eat some good chocolate from good quality cocoa. Brands like Valrhona or Michel cruize.

                          Happy New Year to you

Thank you all for the input
The white hot chocolate drink was enjoyed by my wife

                          This is what I did

I used 3 balls of Lindt Swiss white chocolate
They also have some sort of soft milky centre
In a 250ml latte style glass
Melted down with a small amount of hot water
Added milk up to half way and heated with the steam to mix
stretched the remainder of the milk in a S/Steel jug latte style poured in the milk gave it a final stir and finished it off with a microfoam top

Did she ask for a second ?
Yes she did but not as a chaser
She also had one on new years eve
And on our 27th wedding anniversary today 2.1.2009

And you know I havent had a chance to try one yet
I can only report my wifes remark
                          "This is delicious honey" :
