Tamping

Hi all
Whats an average tamping presssure? I`ve seen all sorts of variations written from 6-13kg and I guess there are varaible to consider but where should I start? I`ve jus got my new sunbeam grinder and now waiting for my unpressureised Krups basket for my Sunbeam machie to arrive. Then i`m into it.

Start at 10kg but consistent technique is more important than actual pressure. Keep it level and a little polish at the end with no pressure and you will be on your way.

Due to many reasons;
1: Grind size
2: Bean type
3: PF size
4: Single or double floor
5: Machine
6: Type of espresso your wanting
7: Tamp style

True, the pressure needed is enough to make a well timed and perfect looking espresso.

yeah, what moto said. Speaking for myself, I have found that making sure I am tamping a consistent pressure and method was more important than how much pressure I was using. Knowing that I have that (reasonably) consistent leaves grind and dose to get right/play with.
