The monkeys pick the sweetest cherries, and carry them around in their cheek pouches whilst they gather them. Once theyve got enough, they sit down and eat the cherries, and spit the seeds (beans) out. Someone then collects them, washes, dries and roasts em.
I think the theory is that the enzymes in the monkeys saliva cause some fermentation to occur, enhancing the complexity of the coffee. I have had it on one occasion and it was excellent; clean, balanced, sweet.
Then there are other Monkey poo beans from Africa..
To some extent I think much of this is marketing and the fact that some people will always pay for what they think is the extreme.....
The fact that it is not agents the Law and no animals are harmed ?? Unlike Rhino Horn or Tigers p...... or Monkey brains etc it means that one can partake in something that not the norm..
yeah,Ive said on here before that I got some Kopi Luwak from Pioneer for $80/100gm roasted. The coffee from the espresso machine was nice, but nothing all that special. Worked really well in the aeropress though, really strong with one hell of a kick, and smooth as with no hint of any bitterness. Good to try once. Am tempted to try some of Instaurators stuff as well...
