  • Tamp - where to buy on a budget?

Can anyone tell me where to buy an efficient tamp, on a budget. I would like a pulman, but cant justify the $200 right now. It needs to fit the krups replacement for the ikon, which I also need to buy the basket and thought I would be able to get them at the same place?

I saw a metal one that looked to be one piece. The one I have now is alloy and a bad bad fit, and its convex, but was a nice upgrade to my spice jar.

    thanks
    James.

$200? That would be for the Barista You can still buy the Pullman Deluxe for a little over $100 - see http://www.coffeetamper.com.au/shop/index.php?cPath=30

Other than that, there are other brands of tamper around sold by sponsors. For example, Rattleware for just $50, Comapk for just over $40. These would do a more than adequate job with tamping.

Take your filter basket (to get best fit) and go and check out a few shops. Some might be able to sell you a Krups basket + tamper combo

Kosmo and Flyn - on the money! Thanks for your quick replies.

I think the Rattlewear is the one for me, unless the stainless steel versions come as a flat bottom.

actually - looks like the rattlewear is 58mm only, so it wont fit my basket size.

I think youll have to buy the basket first and then track down a tamper that fits. Just measure the internal diameter.

Perhaps someone on here who already owns an Ikon or Krups can advise what they use.

Re: Tamp - where to buy on a budget?

Thanks again Flynn. I will get the basket, then source a tamp.

I will contact BES the Krups dealer for availbility and price for the basket.

Most of the forum posts say to just replace the basket, but one says to replace the seal as well
"part #0907163 for the basket, #620342 for the seal"

Any idea what the seal is for?

(this post is a bit of a mish-mash of questions at the moment!)

Maybe email all the sponsors (instructions in sponsors tab) with your issue and they might be able to sort you out with both at the same time saving on stress (will it fit) and money (freight). Plus you will see how great the service is from these guys.
