  • Filtered Water, what do you use?

After getting my silvia i am worried about water quality so i was wondering how everyone that used filtered water gets it?

i was thinking using one of those filter bottles that you fill the top up and its runs through.

what do you other CSers do?

Re: Filtered Water, what do you use?

It all depends on what the composition of your regular water is. Here in Adelaide it has about three times the recommended level of mineralisation.

I mix rainwater and tapwater to the correct level of dissolved minerals, and filter through a .5 micron carbon block filter.

A search for the insanely long water FAQ will give lots of information. Your local water authority will probably publish water analyses on the internet.

Ive had a bench top filter and, for the last few years, a three stage under sink filter throughout my cohabitation with Ms Silvia.  It was 6+ years daily use before reading the insanely long water FAQ and some odd behaviour (water exiting the 3wayValve when it hadnt previously) that I realised that a descale was probably a good thing (DOh)

Oh... You were cleaning and changing the filters in the bench top and under sink units... Werent you ?

I have seen people have them for years and once installed ... They just forget that they need maintenance..

In Brisbane I do my filters and softener about every 9 months.. Could go to about 12 but no safety margin left..

It does not mean I forget about my coffee machines... But it does mean that I do not need to do as often..

I use a Brita and I do replace the filters regularly. I still descale every couple of months.

I use a Brita and need to make sure I change my filters more regularly than I was and descaling will also now take place more often.

              thanks for the quick responses

A good investment is an under sink model

Bernard form Bombora is a very helpful chap & he is from your neck of the woods in Newcastle

There is a water filter system available for all needs and uses but he specializes in coffee machine filtration

Doesnt hurt to call him for a chat

I would prefer an under sink model but I am in rented premises so it is not an option.

I have used Brita for 15 years and will continue until I settle in one place long enough to buy a house. All water for consumtion in our house is filtered.

Its a brave person that drinks the town tap water here as we have yucky tasting and heavily mineralised water. I use a Sunbeam electric water filter both at home and at work, I change the filters every 4-6 months or more often if required. This system works well for me as it removes the dreadful taste and reduces the minerals. I have a little chuckle to myself when the Shire Manager and other Shire officials also drink filtered water, yet tell us that our water is OK. How do I know this? I own a childcare centre and I care for their children, we have a water filter at work and the parents request filtered water for their children.
                      cheers

my town water is not to bad, its all out of the dam but i dont want to harm my silvia if i can help it.

sounds like under the sink job is the way to go, hope its not to expensive all my money is gone due to new silvia and pm tamper but will be good when i get the hang of it

i have found that my family has saved a filter unit from our old house.

its a under bench one with a 20micron filter cartrage.

does anyone know if this is enough or should i find a better one?

                            Contact Bombora .

You will need to provide more information as to size and style etc and while ONE unit is not ideal it is better than nothing. Depending on your water, a softener may be all you require. Other than that, with the right info, Bombora may be able to supply the extra bits to allow you to have a 2 stage system..

Thats what the sponsors are there for

i would have contacted Bombora but i suspect they would try and tell me that it would not be enough to sell stuff.
i was just asking to see what others use as far as micron levels that they filter to
