  • Coffee Books - where to get them in Melbourne?

Hello, as a traveller with no fixed address (at the mo) its hard to order books online - especially those from overseas.

Just wondered if anyone knew of good book stores around Melbourne that stock a healthy range of coffee / barista books. I guess I am looking for a good barista guide - I believe the ones by Schomer and Rao to be the best (from what I have researched) - but this seem out of stock in every store i enter

Any advice on what to read and where to go? My knowledge of coffee is quite basic / intermediate, but I go enjoy a nice challenging read.

    Cheers

    Gday SFS and welcome.
My suggestion would be to check out the list of sponsors down the left hand side of the page (there are quite a few in Melbourne). If they dont have what youre after, they could certainly point you in the right direction.
    All the best,
    Steve.

      Hi SFS,

You will find the Rao book more useful than the Schomer book, which is really geared more at an espresso bar. Dont take everything in the Rao book as gospel, though. In fact, come to think of it, if youre just starting out, youre probably better off putting the cash towards a training session with someone who really knows their stuff than buying a book.

Veneziano and Coffee Hit both have the Rao book.

If you are interested in specialty coffee, you should track down a copy of "God in a Cup," which was written by a journalist who recently spent a few years travelling to origin countries and getting to know some of the big specialty coffee buyers in the USA. Books for Cooks in Gertrude Street have it and I think that they also have Schomer and Rao in their collection of coffee books.

      Cheers,

      Luca

Genovese also have a good collection of books in Coburg, would be worth a phone call or a tram ride.

          cheers guys,

actually have just read God In A Cup along with Wrestling With Starbucks. Both books have provided a great deal of insight, especially God In A Cup.
