Re: Preground experiences?
Well within 30 minutes at least.
I dont mind the drive to either of my two nearest roasters.
Its always nice to catch up as well as come away with good coffee.

Roasting really is the only way to go unless of course you live 5 mins away from a professional roaster.

It was a pretty surreal experience, once I saw the poor pour coming out, I started laughing and didnt stop until I tasted it... then laughed some more! ;D
After the second shot, the ground went straight to the bin.
Yes, I think Ill definitely have to stock up on some green and start roasting...

Re: Preground experiences?
Ahhhhh. No.
But there was someone in the barista thread saying a customer asked them to grind the coffee fine enough to dissolve... ;D
Pingu - I used to have this problem. Never checked my stash enough to figure out when to buy more.
Now I have green beans. I find even a fresh roast with no rest is usually better than instant.

Re: Preground experiences?
Do you have a mortar and pestle? If you do, give the pre-ground a bashing with it to make the grind size smaller. You never know, you might bash some flavour out of the coffee and it couldnt be any worse by the sounds of it

Preground experiences?
So I am fresh out of beans, and itll be a little while before I can get some more. What am I not fresh out of? Coffee!
Well, not fresh out of unfresh coffee. My silvia came with a little tub of what I thought was roasted beans.
No.
It was "espresso" ground beans. I figured it cant be worse than instant?
Yeah, it was. Apparently the people who made this tin have an alternative definition of what "espresso" ground beans are. My definition is that it is suitable for the "espresso" style extraction from a machine. Theirs is apparently big ol chunks.
8 second pour, channeled on the outside ( a bit squirted on my face!). The taste? Instant spit-out.
So, being somewhat of a skeptic at all the hate towards preground, I decided to downdose and tamp harder (whenever I tried to tamp, it just...wouldnt go down. No matter how much pressure. Not like Im a muscle head, but still...)
And the taste? Marginally better! So instead of being instantly spat out, I swallowed and then sinked it.
Miss silvia is in hibernation for a little while I guess... at least I can brew instant using the water from the wand? :-[Tags: None
