Do you think Id be just a tad too extreme if were to employ a security guard 24/7?
Motion sensors hooked to Tazers are cheaper and harder to bribe! [smiley=evil.gif]

Anyone else had their espresso machine violated without their permission?
Most are too intimidated by the sheer size of the gear. The one person who tried to make a brew promptly gave it up after grabbing the porta-filter (Im allowed! : ;D) incorrectly and suddenly finding out just how hot they are on a real espresso machine!

I make it all look too complicated for my wife to try.  It has been a real deterrent for her, she wont even let me teach her how to use the gear - it looks too hard she says

        And as a Taiwanese
If your friends are not Taiwanese, you can be as direct as you like. To paraphrase a sign at the Warburton Roadhouse in remote WA:

"So help me, if one of you so much as touches *this machine* you will lose a leg"

Ahh Cindy, such a happy lady.

No I would not like it either, need some type of device that goes in the group head with a key lock like the idea with trailers where a ball locks in trailer.

I would be happy to show them how to use it, if they asked!

People who enter my home gain a *sixth sense* and know to stay the heck away from my gear. ;D

I guess I just have this aura around me that warns people to keep away from the coffee equipment! 8-) ;D

New employees in my office get the following advice:

"The fridge, toaster, sandwich press, kettle & Microwave are there for anyone to use", but the grinder & espresso are mine, and if you touch them YOU WILL DIE."

Ooooh, where do I hire a Stormtrooper to guard mine? I used to have a Wookie but the damn thing kept malting and you know how much hair a wookie sheds.

Re: Unauthorised use of your espresso machine.

I bought a Quaha Napoletana II (aka Lelit Combi, Nemox Dell Opera, Mokita Combi) for the office which is getting a lot of use...probably 12-15 cups a day. I charge 50c per cup to cover the price of beans, which most people conveniently ‘forget’ to pay. I’m not too fussed about it, I get to drink decent coffee whenever I want and it’s still a lot cheaper than buying inferior coffee from a café.

In an office of 9, only 2 others are confident enough to use the machine (I end up making coffee for the others). Having said that, I will usually find it with:

                        1. The group handle still on group with spent coffee in the basket
                        2. Dried milk on the frothing arm
                        3. The water level dangerously low
                        4. The milk jug sitting on the bench, uncleaned
                        5. The drip tray close to overflowing
                        6. The hopper with no beans
                        7. The steam switch still turned on

It takes me 5mins of cleaning before I get to make a coffee for myself. Again, this is something I’m willing to live with for having good coffee ‘on tap’ only 10 metres from my desk.

The problem now is soon I’ll be going overseas for 2 weeks. Do I trust that they won’t let the machine run dry and burn out the element? I’m very tempted to stash it away while I’m away but then face the wrath of colleagues who, thanks to me, are now addicted to good quality espresso.

Stash it away or MAKE some one else Fully RESPONSIBLE for the replacement of said unit should it be misused in your absence.

CJ, it sounds like it could be time for it to go in for a "service" while you are away, and it will be appreciated all the more when you both return ;D ;D ;D

I returned to the EM6910 after 6 months of being "between contracts".
The machine wasnt as bad as Id imagined it might be.

Hopefully the other 2 confident users will take up the slack caused by your absence.

Leave it there, tell everyone theyre welcome to use it, then take the portafilter with you. ;D
