  • Coffee coming along!!

    Hey guys,

Thanks to everyone who showed up to Melbourne Café day this afternoon. I really enjoyed myself and learned a LOT. Ive gone from undrinkable abominations to quite passable lattés in a mere afternoon!!!..

Just made a couple of lattés a few minutes ago, and while Im stuck with the crappy built in tamper on the Nemox until my Pullman arrives I managed to pull some quite drinkable shots and topped them with some sweet, glossy microfoam the likes of which this household has not seen before!!

Thanks to Chris and Luca in particular for taking some time to "show me the ropes" a little.

I shall cast of the title of coffee-loser and don the cap of apprentice coffeesnob once more!

To anyone out there who is having troubles with their machine, I highly recommend it .. Youd be surprised how a few simple pointers can drastically improve things.

    Next stop, the espresso course

    cheers
    Lachlan

    You are very welcome, Lachlan!

Glad you found the arvo useful. Now you need to get that steam wand tip circumscised ;D. Its always a whole heap of fun hanging out with like-minded people and the time flies.....

Hope to see you in Advanced espresso: http://coffee.angliss.vic.edu.au/coffeemaking.htm#2 someday soon!

      It was indeed useful!...

Today uncircumcised steam tip and all I managed to pour a love heart into a latté glass !!!

Im even getting a bit of whirlpool going with the steam wand.

I think Ill hold off a little on hacking the ol Nemox to pieces while I master the tamping/dosing/etc. first..

Good times ... good times :-)

well.. its been a long weekend.. so ill leave off there ..

      cheers

Glad that Chris and I could be of use.

I couldnt believe that you had only bought the whole setup the week before! Just goes to show that a kilo of coffee and a few litres of milk to throw away make for a great initial intro to a machine.

        Cheers,

        Luca

Actually, even though Id run through 2 litres of milk just practising my foaming technique it was still hopeless. The problem was that I was focussing on the temperature reading on the thermometer more than anything else.

The best thing for me was seeing how you and Chris were doing the steaming. I realised that Id been only letting out a pathetic amount of steam and thats why I was getting nowhere.

Once I tossed the pesky thermometer aside and cut loose with the steam I was well and truly off and running.

Im going to get myself some nice rounded cups and a steaming jug with a pointed lip and start on some latté art ... Cant wait to have friends over and be a show off LOL..

As for the coffee side of it, Im still learning about that. Still waiting on my pullman, but once that arrives Ill be in good shape.

Next up is a grindenstein or something for a knockbox. Now that my pucks are actually firm, My poor sink and chopping board are copping it. :

          cheers
