I like this quotelette from the story,

"Water-soluble “instant” coffees first saw light of cup in Britain in 1771. But the product had a short shelf life and went rancid fast."

Im wondering what has changed over time :-? ;D

It has not...  You only need to leave teh lid off Instant for a short time and it sucks in moisture and goes off...

Problem is that it has become the norm...

My mate at work (IR all teh way) will only buy small tins... Even when we go camping and big probs for any one who uses a wet spoon or leaves the lid off...  I once asked him why he did not buy a big tin...

A:  It goes off and I can taste it...  Further more, with a big tin as it gets low; there is too much air and it goes off and I can taste it....

I just can not get him to have real coffee unless it is week and non acidic as he complains that his sensors and taste bugs just go berserk...

I understand he is one of a  group that are referenced as supertaster...  As per Wiki... I have not advised him that it realy means that he is a girl   ;D
