  • Drip tray and cup warmer scratch protection?

    hello fello snobbers
Just wondering if anyone.....and i know theres got to be someone : who has come up with an idea to protect their shiney new stainless from being scratched from cups etc, i was thinking along the lines of something simular to iphone screen protection of sorts, some sort of clear protection for the drip tray, with holes obviously, and for the cup warmer? hmmmmm itd get mighty hot up there!

Any ideas, sound like a bit of a tight a^^ dont i? :

For my cup warmer Ive fabricated a small piece of what looks like "matchstick blinds" from some thread and saté sticks. To my eyes it looks good and lets the heat out.

I cant see the scratches on the drip tray for the coffee and water stains. ;D If I was concerned Id probably do away with the high gloss and give it a rub with some wet-and-dry sandpaper for a matte or hand-brushed finish.

i like that idea KK, i know the stuff your talking about, and ya could just roll it up when your not using the machine too, and

Greg, sounds like your quite the weaver!, i can picture you there weaving like a native making baskets to carry large quantities of green beans on ya head, love the idea, serves the purpose, and looks good too!

but theres no way im hitting the new GPP with some wet and dry at this stage! lol

        cheers fellas

        any others?

No matter how bizarre, there is always someone else who has had the same thought. I have noticed that already the two stainless steel cups & saucers that sit on my cup warmer are starting to leave a slightly buffed area underneath the saucer. It ran through my mind to put a section of bamboo sushi roller blind on the warmer, but I was resisting the impulse as too, too anal. Now Im feeling a bit less obsessive.

wish these new super shiney machines werent so shiney, dont want scratches, once i get a few though......itll all be ok

gunna do the rubber mat on drip tray for sure, still thinking for the cup warmer, maybe some groovy looking sqare bamboo latice or something? or teak? it would smell like a coffee sauna!

            cheers fellas

A little like Bamboo mats, I might have to see if I can find a nice sized one to fit perfectly on top of our Synesso, because that machine just screams scratches if youre rough with it.

Hi Guys just for anyone whos interested. I recently just got my Giotto evo and scratched the drip tray. Since had it all fixed up and looking new again by Mr Sparkle in Melbourne. They did a really good job and it was only $20.

Since then I reccomend two things:

                1. Just lay a cloth over it when making coffees; and
                2. Use high quality cups like acfs as the glazing is very smoth and doesnt scratch like the run of the mill cups.

do you not think these are more ugly than scratches?

Usage scratches on the drip tray add patina to the machine IMHO.. and covering the machine up is just hiding it, which I dont believe is a good idea when you have a really nice machine.

Another option... being only the drip tray and cup warmer tray, you can buy replacement parts if youre really that pedantic about how it looks

As mentioned above, use good quality cups. I use duralex 200ml glasses for latte/LM and bodum for espresso, minimises the scratching.
