Re: When P.C. Goes Too Far
My advice to you is to NEVER, and I mean EVER get a job in the Queensland State Government.Originally posted by 5F70797B6C537F707F797B737B706A1E0 link=1255513546/22#22 date=1255596738PC correctness and being gob smacked (pun there for some)
1: We learnt a lot of lessons in the WW1 as to what happens when you follow people of Station and Breading - WITH NO SKILLS...
2: Australians (from all over the world etc) have forged ahead because we often do act outside the STATED roles given.
3: Reviews of the top performing companies often credit the fact to front line staff taking the initiative or been given the authority to respond to clients needs rather that passing the buck.
I did, have the same attitude as you, and got told that I would never make it in to a management role because I couldnt tow the line...

Re: When P.C. Goes Too Far
Hi AM,
As far as Im concerned, being told to "Butt out" can be turned to advantage.
I just tell the truth and then go by the stated policy on complaints:
"I dont know, the twits dont talk to me either. Heres their supervisors number, feel free to complain--its enshrined in our company policy."
And anyone who wants to "micro-manage" can easily be snowed under by seeking written advice on even the smallest matters. Get 4 or 5 staff doing it and the managers soon crack and go on stress leave.
Been there, done that.
Greg
Sometimes PC is fun--its so easy to ridicule.

Hey dump away, isnt that also what CS is all about.Originally posted by 07282123340B27282721232B232832460 link=1255513546/22#22 date=1255596738Instead I am left to dump on CS...SORRY..
I can understand your situation especially when being in charge of an area/function but having the authority of the role taken away by those in charge who have no expertise in my area.
Very frustrating at times!

Re: When P.C. Goes Too Far
PC correctness and being gob smacked (pun there for some)
At a one on one meeting with the TERRITORY Manager (Repeat TERRITORY Manager) I chose to say nothing and walk away fuming.
I make no apologies for my rant on PC in this topic..
It was made clear to me that he was the TERRITORY Manager and that I had a specific role and was not to step outside my station... After a few terse words and discussion; I was again reminded that he was the TERRITORY Manager.
(I think he felt threatened that I was more qualified, more experienced, had a deeper understanding of all the clients and out side fo work am still active in health care in teh area of standards and published papers etc.. Yet have chosen to go back into an opperational role).
I was accused of having a conflict of interest and reminded that Australians are their own worse enemies in the workforce; as they try to do to much for their customers and need to remain focused on their explicit role and station. And that support people should let those best qualified to manage customer concerns - just focus on the equipment... Thats what your paid for!
I was absolutely blown away..
I questioned some issues of communication as I had previously received an e-mail demanding to be keep in the loop on all matter in my area.
I was advised that it still stood... I asked why I and others did not receive and communications at all and that it was not a good image when we rocked up on site and have to wing it when we find that he is or has just been on site.. Makes us look like we dont communicate :
I was advised to respond with "No Comment"or "I am not at liberty to comment, I am here to fix the equipment"... :P
Should I have performed a little curtsy and responded with YES Governor !
OR
Told the Pommy git where to get off.
Either way a code of conduct and PC would have been breached..
Instead I am left to dump on CS... SORRY.. :-*
PS. dump on CS not to be taken literally

We have ways of making you become a non entity - join the masses (or does that refer to church :-/) in which case, join the multitude of persons of various racial and political backgrounds acting in a harmonious manner so as not to offend any other group of persons or person (or non - persons) etc etc etc etc etc etc :-/
