So another month has rolled by and that means the Sydney CoffeeSnobs meetup is approaching again.
This one is going to be a little different...
Were holding it at 2pm-5pm at Coffee Alchemy in Marrickville (Cafe w/ Roastery at the back run by CoffeeSnobs member Hazel), and will be having a roast off (muahhahaha) with a pour-off. If you want feedback on your home roasts (and how they taste), therell never be a better time than this, with Hazel de los Reyes around (Australian Barista Champion 2005 and 2006), along with at least 2 AASCA certified judges (hopefully 4 if Michelle and Yeeza make it along!).
Well start by exploring our sensory abilities using solutions tasting, which is a fun and fantastic way of seeing whether you can taste sweet, sour and salty things apart (without everyone looking over your shoulders). FYI, I got these wrong the first time (but my excuse is the lime gatorade I had beforehand :
)
Then well move onto a roast-off / pour-off, where you can either get someone familiar with the machine to do the best job they can, or have a play yourself!
Equipment: LM Linea 2GR (possibly a 3GR Paddle Linea!) and BNZ, Robur and Compak Conical Grinders.
Christmas Party
Well follow this by wandering up the road to the Warren View Hotel, which is known for its "cheap yet delicious food and generous beer garden". Timing on this is meant to be a little earlier than we adults usually have our nosh, in order to let people whore travelling get back home at a reasonable hour if they choose to do so, but the idea is to have a social and food together somewhere affordable and easy to get to.
N.B. On the next block from the View is Sultans Table, a pretty well regarded turkish restaurant (and takeaway, so if theres an overriding preference well change venue to there - its just as cheap and might be even more tasty)
So reasons to come are:
Im coming, hazchem is coming, who else is in?
NB. If we dont have 8 confirmed total by the Wednesday before, I think we may cancel the meet and do something more casual, as I know Hazels giving up her time freely, and Aaron and I though it right that we only take advantage if theres going to be a reflective turnout!
all the best,
John.
PS. Coffee Alchemy is on the corner of Addison Road and Cook Road in Marrickville (the Enmore/Stanmore end)
Confirmed:
Hazchem (Aaron)
coffeehorse (John)
flynn_aus (Steve)
Possible:
Hazchems partner
coffeehorses wife
flynn_auss wife
