Re: Should I be concerned :-)
You might want to let your family know about the support group for people like yourself. It is called FARCAD.
Friends And Relatives of the Coffee ADdicted.
If you are well and truly FARCAD then you will need all the tolerance and understanding you can get from your extended family.

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
Yep, as I said to Mrs Mono, "could be worse, I could have decided to buy a Harley or something and been away most weekends riding with the boys." Instead Im either in the shed roasting or brewing a cup in the kitchen. Oh well I must be resigned to the fact that it is terminal and that i must accept a long slow death by caffeine ;DOriginally posted by 6D786F6F64676B640A0 link=1258507202/10#10 date=1258581889racing home for one of you own amazing extractions--"isnt it great!!!"

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
Face the facts mono, youre a goner sit back and enjoy the aroma of those freshly ground beans, the god shots, filter brews, plungers, cupping sessions, roasting green beans, beanbay pickups, going to cafes and assessing their coffee as if one was an AASCA judge and then racing home for one of you own amazing extractions--"isnt it great!!!"

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
There is no known cure only treatment, you must only drink good fresh coffee.
Dont even go near a cafe that you know you will be disapointed in.
This is harder than you think, what may appear to be good on the outside may infact be terrible on the coffee side.Nothing worse than having a fresh baked cake and the coffee ruins it.

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
Alas it is terminal. As with other terminal illnesses there comes a time where the best and kindest thing to do is to make the patient comfortable. I would prescribe a double ristretto every four hours.Originally posted by 0A282928470 link=1258507202/4#4 date=1258514723But Doctor, I must ask.....is it terminal as there is obviously no cure

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
Thanks for your concerns..............yes, these describe my symptoms exactly. Fortunately I am not alone and these "self help" groups exist. Not sure if some of these dont actually intensify symptoms. :Originally posted by 292A3F363F353733313F5A0 link=1258507202/3#3 date=1258512297
The symptoms may include a preference for espresso over milk based drinks but thats not definitive. Addiction signs start with a small upgrade of your espresso machine followed by a grinder upgrade and every spiraling repeats of this behavior. It also includes purchasing ofephemera associated with the habit such as custom made tampers, knock boxes, cups and saucers, books etc.
A more serious phase is the progression from "brown" to "green". Thats where one ogles at the Green Bean Bay and the Bean bay forum at others with the habit and then it leads to the purchase of a roasting machine. Those that build one instead of buying one are just as affected. That again leads to upgraditus and bigger more powerful roasters.
My most sincere condolences and welcometo the addiction, at least here on this self-help forum you will be guided and mentored so that you will be able to lead a sorta normal life Smiley

Re: Should I be concerned :-)
Hi
Im so sorry for you. Its a drug that can produce psychological addiction just from its aroma alone.

Dear Scared,
Im sorry to tell you, your affliction is terminal
Many have tried, but once you have crossed over to the "Brown Side", there is no going back
Some have tried professional help, but alas, it will not help :-?
Im afraid all you can do is enjoy the ride and the experience of very good coffee ;D
Warren.
