Re: 2010 AASCA National Championships - Jan 29-31
Well, I had a brilliant weekend - first the pleasure of ScootGal and ScootaKid staying with us (thanks once again for tweaking my technique, Scoots, theyve been pouring beautifully again today!) and then a quickish drive down the freeway to the Gold Coast.
I was just enthralled for the most part, watching all the competitors - particularly the Coffee in Good Spirits Comp
- and really feeling for those that were so nervous. Having been up on stage myself many times before for dancing, I can fully sympathise with the shaking hands and the trying to centre yourself. There was one poor guy towards the end, that I tried to send a psychic "stop and take a deep breath" to, but he obviously didnt hear me!
Having said that, the calibre was absolutely phenomenal and some of the latte art was beautiful. Im still blown away with both Fiefys Smoking Dog, Wills Butterfly (our winning man) and the first competitors (Habib? I think) Dragon and Pheonix representing Yin and Yang. Top job guys! I too cringed a bit at the drippers and really felt for the guys, if thered only been an extra minute for each of the competitors, I think there would have been some different results in the end, with a bit more opportunity to redo shots but I guess thats competition for you. Although he didnt win, I really liked Tims presentation and think he did an excellent job from a spectator point of view.
It was really great to catch up with a number of people - Scoots, Lartay HCK, AM, Andy, Gra, Luca, Sean Edwards and Brad from BeanScene. If you were there and I didnt catch you, my apologies - I was too busy sitting in my front row seat transfixed!
And finally, a candid shot (sorry about the blurryness, he was trying to dodge the shot!)
Cheers
Di

) I was also able to listen in to the judges calibration after each round (for the flight of judges that I was with) which was good.
