  • Volumetric buttons what are the 3rd and 4th button for??

So i am sitting there looking at my coffee machine, it has 5 buttons 4 with pictures of cups full (or part full) of coffee and one that just keeps running. Now i have reprogrammed them and i only really use the buttons to run a pre shot flush and a after shot flush and normally manually pull shots via sight / time

    they are pictures of
    1. 1 shot (single)
    2. double shot
    3. maybe 1 long black??
    4 maybe 2 long blacks??

so for buttons 3 and 4 what does the picture represent?

i cannot imagine running 150mls of water through the puck and have often wondered why they are even there it would not be a nice "long black" now would it.

what do the pros use them for? or do they at all?

As you described. Coffee machine manufacturers are not baristas.

        From my machines manual
1 Selection key for one dose of regular coffee
2 Selection key for one dose of weak coffee
3 Selection key for two doses of regular coffee
4 Selection key for two doses of weak coffee

        Centre button is manual on/off

In reality one can set any program key to any amount of time required

              Hi Maheel,

We use #1 for our purge and #4 for a double shot (60ml). #3 is our double ristretto for an 8oz takeaway (40ml) and #2 is smaller double ristretto (25ml). (We dont use a single baskets but if you did, youd have another reason to program a button).

i no that, but with every machine i have pressed it is always seemed set (programed) for way to much water.

maybe i was just thinking out loud

Yea they are. There was a time when it was common for longblacks to be made in this way. People just didnt know better, or didnt drink long black because they were gross :P

Think or search the term Lungo, my old solis 90 had buttions that would allow up to 150ml over the puck :P

I had local fish and chip shop owner tell me the other week (greek by the way : ) how I should have been making my long blacks for customers. Double flow through a double basket, I did try and talk him around as to bitterness etc but no luck.
