Made for Cafes to help try and maintain consistency with nuff nuff users behind the machines. Still a lot better than using the thing on the front of the grinder like some do  :

That said for people with physical disabilities they would be a great help
And another lever for you BF! (to add to the extensive collection!) ;D

Agree with AM, generally it would be better to just use a good hand tamper. I like the Pullman unit with the concentric rings around the outside so you can keep an eye on how level you are tamping.

Hey guys, any thoughts on how good those lever tamper thing that is used in place of a handheld tamper? I personally prefer my Greg Pullman but have seen cafes using those huge ass lever tamper that is possibly supplied by Amanti (dont mind the crap branding of Amanti, that aside). Just wondering if those huge ass of a thing is actually better than a handheld tamper?
A mate made one up and had it calibrated etc etc..

I advised him not to bother,  but NO: All the hype about 15kg had him convinced it was the only way to be consistent.

I gave him a good quality Tamp for Xmas and he has not looked back NOR bothered to use the said item again.

His unit had depth and some adjustment for pressure etc.

    However......

He soon found (rocky with doser) that if he did not get the grind and dose 100%; then the tamping system did not perform exactly as he had assumed it would.

Now any number of the hand tamps today can include a spring or like the Demaral be set for depth etc.  These can often be adjusted on the fly and as it is hand held - less space and you can always over ride it.

But that is just what I have seen and experienced...

Would I have one in a Coffee school... For Teaching purposes YES....  Would I have one in a shop... Maybe if I was GJ or Starbucks and was attempting to market a concept to the masses
