  • Wet puk after shot

How to read a puk? Just wondering if anyone can help me understand what it means to have a wet puk after pulling a shot? The puk is quite solid, but just a little sloppy on top when removing the porter filter. cheers.

Could be a little under dosing

Dose to just 0.5mm under the level of the water screen when the Group handle is locked in

              Gday Kammy....

A slightly wet puck (on the top only) isnt a big deal. More of a problem though if the entire puck is a bit soupy. With some coffees, I prefer shots that are poured from slightly underdosed baskets and on occasion, there is a little puddle of water on top if I underdose just a wee bit too much. The rest of the puck remains firm and cohesive though and most importantly, the resulting coffee tastes wonderful - What were all aiming for after all..... 8-)

              Mal.

                Gday Kammy,
a wet or soupy puck can also be an indicator of a grind that is too fine. Imagine water trying to pass through a basket of gravel and a basket of sand. The water will have a harder time getting through the sand and you may end up with residual water on top. I know they are extreme size comparisons, but it helps with the visualisation.

                  ROFLMAO... Thats nasty ;D

I know a few; who are less fortunate than some when it comes to coffee and or the freedom to choose...

I have rebuilt a few to-date and have a mess of bits in teh shed of old EM6900s

mum2three, another lady friend (doing it tough with twins) have loners of mine, a mate has one at present; to help get his wife on side and I enjoy rebuilding / moding.....

They can be expensive to rebuild as the usual bits are the collar, seal, filter etc and in worse case the steam pump..... I have been able to mod the odd collar etc and thus good as loaners not for resale as that would not be fair..

PS. The EM69AMB has a modified steam steam system and a few other extras... Some say it out performs the original systems but to me it is about understanding and getting others interested in good coffee.

I am not trying to be unfair, I will only ask minumum price for it as the collar is worn, but apart from that, its all working well, atm of course. My problem is that I am fairly handy, and when I sell things to people I know, invariably I end up fixing problems down the track. I want to say goodby to the old SB and there will be no lies told.
