Yeah, me too. Theres no hiding all the faults in a long black. If its crap I just leave it, if good I tell them.

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
Had something simmilar down the road from where I work recently.Originally posted by 173920300A1D3A202630550 link=1281717266/16#16 date=1282024855I had lunch, today, in a new cafe in Burnie (NW Tasmania). They were using beans with which I am extremely familiar (& love) - Genovese Super Brazil - asked for a short black and was served about 100ml in a 200ml cappuccino cup of sour, under-extracted aqua scuro with absolutely no crema (well - thankfully is was SHORT). I refrained from screaming.
i dont think i screamed, but i think the (well im not comfortable with saying barista) person who made my coffee, saw me quietly sobbing.

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
Half latte followed by an espresso if the coffee is up to scratch and a cap (or nothing at all) if not!
Sent two coffees back in a row somewhere recently then complained to management - who stood around scratching their collective heads so I politely excused myself and walked out...

Ah you got it in one phrostyboi - Keffa Han.
Was glad enough to see the East Brunswick bags there when I first started going in, and then was delighted to see the gold precious there...

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
My local, Pablo&rustys is supplied by AIR (australian independent roasters) who roast a decent bean. there, i go through phases of flatties, double rissys, piccolos and long blacks.

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
Living in inner Melbourne, Im spoiled for choice with some top notch cafes who buy great beans, or roast their own. One of my faves is even using a special blend from Andy now, so no complaints there!
Ill frequently buy a 3/4 latte when visiting somewhere quality. My skills and kit are nowhere near up to what these guys can do (yet...
)
And its a great way to see what can be possible and extend my skills to strive for a certain quality...if I hadnt tasted some crackers from these places I would be satisfied with some very average coffee today.

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
with a good cafe ill order either a short / long mach, long black or latte
I find the long black is always the sign that the barista knows what theyre doing, as many people seem to stuff it up
any new place that I go to which has a good rep I always start with a long black or long mach

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
At the best places I just ask for something nice.
If the place is good I will generally ask for a double ristretto 3/4 latte.
If the place is poor Ill ask for a tea or a water.

*snort* I wouldnt assume thatOriginally posted by 5E555C51584F505E555C54493D0 link=1281717266/7#7 date=1281765768Seems like home-roasted coffees beat most cafe out there.
I can happily say that the cafes I frequent beat my home roasts and brews hands down. Granted, Ill only go to a cafe that I KNOW is better than what I can produce, which also means I stand to learn something while there.
when time is limited Ill usually have a latte and a pourover at my local. If Ive got some time to sit and relax, I let the barista decide. Often, they sourced the coffee, roasted it and have been pulling shots of it all day. My belief is that they would know the best way to show that coffee off, and given that Ill drink any espresso based bevvie Im happy to drink what is offered!Originally posted by 5E555C51584F505E555C54493D0 link=1281717266/0#0 date=1281717266Just wonder what CSers normally order when drink out at any favorite local Cafe

Re: Espresso or Latte or ...... at local cafe
Double shot Latte at a few selected cafes or go without quite often if I am out for a meal
Locally I have never tempted fate and asked for an Espresso but there is maybe 2 in the area out of 60+ that might be worth a try.
