  • Maccas coffee

We have just returned from a holiday, and as we travel with a youngun we do the obligatory Maccas stop so they can burn off excess nervous energy and get some non nutrition gut fill.
We were hanging out for a nice cuppa coffee so we ordered a couple of lattes. I took one sip and looked at my wife. She did the same. It was the most insipid excuse for a cup of coffee that I have had for along time. Dont get me wrong, I am not a highly rated expert as many here are and I am still learning a lot about coffee and machines, but this was terrible! I went back and complained and the manager gave me a double shot which wasnt much better. They use fully automated machines and dosers so they dont need to train Baristas. So much for the "rain forest alliance coffee" they so proudly promote.
Has anyone else tried their coffee? Is it just me that thinks it is that bad or what? Your thoughts folks

You go to a fast food outlet and expect decent food?
You got to a fast food outlet and expect decent coffee?

If so, your expectations are way above mine. I havent been inside a Maccas for about 10 years and that isnt about to change

Maccas dont sell food and are not a restaurant IMHO just a gut fill place. However they used to do halfway reasonable coffee before they changed to their new rain forest alliance stuff. I have very low expectations of maccas and so far they have failed to exceed them! ;D

        Re: Maccas coffee

I hate to admit it, but Ive actually had a half decent coffee from Mds before. The only hope is one of the Mc Cafe stores, the one I went to had a barista and a semi-auto commercial machine. So perhaps it just depends on the store you go to.

But I agree - you could hardly go to McDonalds expecting quality coffee.

Its more a case of should you find yourself stuck at the golden arches, at a time when you are in desperate need of a hit, there is a slim (say 1% chance) that you will actually be able to keep one of their Mc Cafe coffees down

            Not that Id recommend it!

                Re: Maccas coffee

Funny this cropped up this morning on another coffee blog   Back 20 years ago if you got a pot of their fresh brewed drip it was not totally disgusting when compared to the average cafe of the day. Maccas free for more years than I remember.

er, what do you mean? RFA, Fairtrade, Organic and any other number similar types of labels have no bearing on quality. You can still buy plenty of CRAP coffee that carries those marketing labels.

                    Re: Maccas coffee

Living up in the sticks as I do, there is nowhere decent to go for a good coffee after going to the theatre (believe it!)
On one occasion, our friends decided that it would have to be McCafe.
I watched the counter staff make some buckets of slush and decided I didnt want one of those, so sat and watched my friends enjoy theirs.
(I dont make coffee for these folks - they get dripolator when they visit) I guess they are the lucky ones as they had a drink, albeit something not really recognisable as coffee.

                        You order a Coke.

I agree its putrid stuff. You have to taste it to belive just how bad it is. I would much prefer to drink vending machine coffee from a service station than the Mcdonalds swill.

I just happened to add a link to this post for them to look at after I sent a complaint about my last foray into their world of alleged coffee. Maccas management, I hope you are reading all this and what is thought about what you call coffee.

                            Re: Maccas coffee

the rfa coffee is usually only used in the the mcafe,
this is a nice coffee when made through a traditional machine, but not through the automatic, bit sour

the coffee used in the drive through is the original blend they were using
and the machine is a super automatic, so apart from cleaning and hitting a button, there is no maccas human intervention

so next time in maccas try a SMALL Cap through the drive through machine

it might even taste like coffee

Im gunna say it......its maccas, what do you expect, filing a complaint will do nothing with a giant like maccas, they advertise RFA, and thats what they sell, they advertise Arabica, and thats what they sell, god knows when, where or how it was roasted and the what grade of beans they were originally, same as if you stopped at a servo, you expect crap, and that is what they deliver, couple of years ago i was scooting across the nullabor, drinking the worst coffee in australia, but i expected nothing more, you guys are coffeesnobs because you enjoy premium coffee, whilst i am the same, i will still drink crap coffee including instant, but i expect nothing more, if i want the good gear......i go home ;D

Just my 2cents, no offence to anyone, everyone is more than entitled to their own opinion

                              Cheers
