  • New Home Barista Institute

    Hey Guys,

This place called the "*************" opened up a few months ago around the corner from my place, in *************************.

They sound to be genuinely passionate about coffee, so there might be another location you can pick up advice, accessories, machines and also do courses.

I dont really know the couple who run it, nor am I in any way affiliated with them.

Ill see if I can pop in there for a coffee and a chat at some point.

I wonder if they are CSers.... .... or maybe would love to join the ranks of our other fair CS sponsors.

Anyone been there? Have any comments on it?

    cheers
    Lachlan

Please do not provide Free Advertising for NON-Sponsors of the CS website. Next time the entire post will be deleted.

Yupz... Ive been there many times! I learnt all about coffee there in fact!
They know their stuff! Talk to *****, he is the owner and trainer of the cafe!

They offer Coffee Appreciation course for $45 and its the cheapest in the whole of Australia, perhaps.. I learnt almost everything there.. Its definitely worthwhile to try their coffee. Remember.. ask for *****!

    As per my comments above.

Hmm.....we have a great training academy as a sponsor...staffed by professional and highly skilled people who bust their buns to provide excellence in education as well as feebie events and a whole heap of other opportunities for CSers....and instead the unknown institution which doesnt even (AFAIK) operate as an RTO gets the plug...and theyre not even a sponsor  > And yeah...it has been a very long day

      End of rant.....

        now now now...

I think said sponsoring training acadamy gets plenty of plugs and spotlight time here

        Share the love a little..

Think of it this way; its another place spreading the gospel of good coffee which in and of itself increases the market for it.

Not to mention it is actually a café itself that serves breakfast and such, so its somewhere you know will serve good coffee!

        Turn that frown upside down

Im more than happy for the love to be shared around, but the site sponsors pay for the priviledge of being put in the spotlight and given plugs.
It costs them money both in $$$, and in person hours, by answering our enquiries, questions and giving advice.
I dont think that its too much to ask that we, as a community, look after the site sponsors, not only in an active sense by purchasing from them, but by not giving free advertising and plugs to other companies that would benefit, without them having to contribute to the site.
I think that advertising that company X has the cheapest course in Australia would count as free advertising.

Now that Ive gotten that off my chest.
My frown has been turned upside down

Spot on Lovey [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]. The name of the game is to support our Site Sponsors...... How do you think this site stays on the air, not via manna from heaven. Common guys and gals, get behind our sponsors and enough with the free-bees,
          Mal.

Thanks for the support, Lovey...Its nice to see that the countless hours of support- be it via email, here or by phone does not go unnoticed by all.

A wise person once told me that if my cafe was a good one, Id be way too busy to have the time to roast my own....perhaps the same goes for training . One wonders what their core business is- cafe or teaching?

The bottom line is that RTOs have accountablility and long-term reputation to consider....and you will often have to shell out a few more bucks to do a course at a RTO....BUT....you get you get the benefit of a trained educator who has industry experience and broad understanding of the industry...not just some dude who has a coffeeshop :-?.

                Re: New Home Barista Institute

Well my original intent was not to post that this place has the cheapest or best anything but rather to find out if anyone had heard anything about it since it was around the corner from my place.

I support site sponsors and dont really appreciate the post being sensored.

Sponsors get prime position, banner ads and plenty of plugs from members. One teeny little post that will fade off the pages in a few days is hardly comparable.

If this forum is going to remain a valuable resource I believe it needs to be open and free to discuss any aspect of the coffee experience. If its forbidden to discuss any other company but those that advertise here then it will quickly lose relevance and credibility. Recently a post which made mention of another offering of green beans from another supplier was firstly edited to remove any reference to the other company and then deleted.

Not trying to dis our valued sponsors who provide a great service (and have been very helpful to me with more than one issue) but even from a sponsors perspective they need to look at the big picture and realise the negative consequences of overt censorship and stifled discussion.

To those who have followed and read this thread, I refer you to the site sales and posting policy..http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1115338528 and suggest that you take the time to read it.  :-? I quote Andy when he wrote:

"CoffeeSnobs has a policy of no commercial postings unless authorised by the admin team.
                    This includes:
                    Forum Posts
                    Signatures
                    Commercial Websites in Member Profiles

We have some great official sponsors listed on the forum front page and these guys have a right to be protected in the forum.

Links to ebay ads or other similar off-site promotion to any sales related material are not welcome here.  If you would like to be included in the “Official Sponsor” list please contact me. "

Nothing has changed here since Andy took over the administration of this site....

This site wouldnt exist were it not for sponsors and so many others who provide their time and expertise for free....Who do you reckon pays the bills?? Alternately youd be buying beans from one of the other sites at perhaps $20 per kilo. Cmon guys, it has to go a little bit both ways. The rules are clearly stated and simple....All we have to do is simply follow them...

Ah look Im not buying into this as it it a matter for the site owners / administrators / moderators, but I do wish to clarify that my post above should be taken exactly on its face value and in no other way.

I simply wished to thank the respondents that publicly mentioned that they support site sponsors (or words to the effect).

They didnt need to do this, and the fact they did I thought deserved a special "thank you" in response.

I know I do this purely as a protagonist/devils advocate, but does this Please do not provide Free Advertising for NON-Sponsors of the CS website" rule only apply to businesses that are in competition with existing sponsors?

                              Re: New Home Barista Institute

Matt- at the moment it applies across the board- but its a veritable hornets nest- both for the moderators and for members.

We are developing a FAQ and also rules for posting and selling to help better address this and other issues. Sponsors pay to have access to members and its unfair that competitiors receive free plugs, however we acknowledge that we need to keep the information channels open so as to not stifle valuable discussion.

Those in business are not permitted to plug themselves unless they are sponsors, nor are profiles to include url links to business websites.

While we work out how to better explain how things should occur, we ask that members refrain from adding links to other businesses in posts....though my interpretation is that its ok to discuss other businesses....I think :-/

I hope that this makes things as clear as mud and request that other mods add to this thread if/where appropriate...
