    Re: Quick visit to Melbourne

    Hello All,

Ross here from Jasper, it certainly is unfortunate to hear some of you were unhappy with some of our coffees.
The best thing for all concerned is to let us know, if coffee is defective and we have made an error we are always happy to hear from customers and would resolve them accordingly and as quickly as possible.
It is true that we are all different, thats what makes coffee so great, in so far as being quoted also in this thread what was mentioned was untrue and indeed a misrepresentation.
We roast yirgecheffe coffee in a particular way, it may be different to others but that is neither here nor there.
Our motivations in regards to marketing are heartfelt and honest, we want to help those who are living in situations you or I would not tolerate at home. It is not all about making a dollar, if would like to know more let us know we are happy to provide you with evidence of just how much of a difference it can make to peoples lives.
Just keep in mind that we are receptive to any form of fedback, positive or negative. Afterall, what we do is about coffee and people at all levels, we want to provide a positive experience.
    Thankyou all for your time.

My wife and I are probably going to Perth in late June, with the main objective being to check out Epic Espresso...

So I know what you mean

Hmm, Perth, hey? Better start saving for the airfares ... ;D

        Hi Ross,

My sincere and personal apologies for misinterpreting what you have meant and the comment has been withdrawn respectfully.

When I was talking to you and told you about the Yirg being over-roasted and really oily looking compared to the rest of the beans, I have since had a look at another batch and did buy 250 grams as my coffee supplies had gone down for that weekend. It was quite nice....definitely one of my faves.

        Dave

PS: Didnt see you at the VBC finals. Busy all day at Fed Square?

Dave thankyou for your honest and candid response. I didnt make the barista finals due to getting slammed at Wicked Sunday.
On the yirgy I am glad you have since tried it again and enjoyed it, these types of instances keep you on your toes ! The participation in the VBC for me was to broaden my view as a roaster, it can be said that you can make yourself an island if you remain on the outer. Being open to both praise and critcism equally will certainly do me no harm.

            Kind Regards

            Ross

You are correct that buckets are not the ideal way to store coffee, these situations arrive through a marriage of business and practicality. If there was a cost effective suitable alternative it would be done, until such times the stores are delivered freshly roasted coffee 2 or 3 times a week to maintain the highest degree of freshness we are able to achieve. Furthermore the buckets are not full, there are bases that sit half way up the bucket giving the appearance of alot of coffee, the rest is stored underneath airtight and out of light.
              We will keep looking !

              Regards

              Ross

i can see that the buckets generate customers, but it doesnt teach them good habits. Why not have the display and have pre packet coffee beans in the correct storage. They see the beans and see the way you store the coffee and learn. Label the bags in the right manner so people will see, that they are getting the correct blend. I always let the customer smell the beans before they buy so they can understand how fresh coffee works.
You guys have such a great selection of coffee but i would never buy coffee that is left out. Brought coffee out of buckets too many times and been let down.
If a cafe sells Jaspers i have no problems drinking it. I actually like it. I had a poorly made jaspers coffee, however it was fresh and all the notes were there. Of course that happens to all roasters that sell coffee!! One of my favourite cafes sells Jaspers. Educating people on ethics is great, but i would never tell a customer to store coffee that way. Especially when it can taste sooooo much better storing it the right way! I think there is a easy solution to fix the problem and thats with educating the customer.
