Today Tonight is just showing a piece about how apologising is the latest corporate marketing tool.

You mean they are running an advertisement :

You now get a replacement if you dont "love" your mcDs coffee.

A lot of the McCafes use proper espresso machines rather than superautomatics - usually Rancilio Classe 10s and Rancilio MD-80 grinders (in Melbourne at least, not sure if that applies elsewhere in Australia).
interesting to know... all the few mccafes Ive been to here in WA use superautos rather than proper machines. wonder if theyre planning to upgrade all the cafe superautos when they employ all these new people??

Re: McDonalds Customers Brew Up a Stink...

If Maccas is like most Franchisors, they will dictate who the coffee supplier is so I would assume that bad beans in one outlet, bad beans in all.

        Its a pity because...

Sorry, I couldnt think of anything nice to say about anything they sell.

there was an ad in an Adelaide paper today that if you are not happy they will give you another cup.

what do you do if the second cup is rubbish?

how many cups before you get your money back?

This is heavily dependent on which McDonalds outfit you visit. A friend and I spent a few hours driving across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and found a McD., we were not searching for it, or a McD., we just happened to have had enough driving, that offers coffee, which was alright.

Most of the time McD. screws up the coffee, and they can never even consistently screw up. Sometimes I have had coffee so foul that I had to throw it away, it literally made me feel like vomiting.

yep agreed many coffee shop coffees and all instant and evil percolator brews sitting on hob aarrgh !! Ive tried makes me feel very nauseous and ill for up to hours later, this stopped me drinking instant decades ago and makes me nervous about coffee in shops etc [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

I wonder what is in the chemistry that is doing this ???

The Ad states they have re-trained their baristas
                Classic.
Before this ad i presumed the people that went to McDonalds for coffee liked it. Now thanks to the ad, i know they dont.

Yes but re-trained as what? Cleaners, Fry Cooks, Uniform Spot Checkers? Imagine the exasperated managerial staff (with their collective 4.76 years experience in the industry) bemoaning "you think the coffee is bad wait till you try re-trainee 76s version of our beloved Big Muck!" the whole scenario is ripe for parody because a truly serious investment in coffee as a product starts with the beans and a transparent thoughtful and consistent approach to roasting, handling and storage and disposal of the beans. Fix that and then worry about your machinery and transient un-skilled workforce. If the product is great then the onus is on the stores to lift their game and not the brand having to whore itself to cynical opportunistic PR campaigns. I wish them every success but Id rather taste the difference than read about it!

I suspect that they do not clean their machines properly either, as the consistency of their bad coffee varies. Sometimes I think that they do not wash out whatever chemicals they use to clean their implements, and who knows how they clean their machines.

Re: McDonalds Customers Brew Up a Stink...

It all comes back to the fact that no self-respecting Barista would want to work at Maccas unless the outfit is genuinely serious about producing high quality coffee. I cant see why Maccas would want to get into high quality coffee - it would be inconsistent with their market niche and their strengths which is providing garbage for the undiscriminating masses. Im betting their traditional customers would not like (or recognise) good coffee. Good Baristas take a pride in their work and also usually in the place where they work. I dont think you could ever tell people with pride that you were a Barista at Maccas.

Theres a very easy fix to this one also! Pay them more... Not just a little more but like 50% more than the going rate for a barista. I cant see it happening though

I have made coffee for people who have suggested it was wonderful and they have never tasted coffee like that.

So they can tell the difference.

However this doesn’t mean they will stop being happy with a 100,000Km sump oil to drink.

Something I noted in their ad is they pay homage to the "complainers" of the world as unrecognised revolutionaries. Its a backhanded insult, they say they respect them but still label them complainers. So, if anyone says McDs coffee is rubbish theyre a complainer? Sorry, no, theyre just stating a fact.

Edit: why is a site called coffeesnobs even discussing the merits of McDs? Next, Caterers Blend vs Pablo?

In light of McDonalds recent admission, the comments on page 43 of the new BeanScene magazine are rather unfortunate.

All great websites need to have an Off Topic section and that is definitely where this one belongs...
