  • Where can I buy Barako (Philippines) coffee in Australia?

After a recent trip to the Philippines I have been converted to drinking Barako coffee. Its just amazing. Does anyone know where I can buy some from in Australia?
    Cheers!

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs Geza.

Id guess that if you could find some here it would not be as fresh as you got it there.
That would then spoil it for you.

What was it about it that you liked?

Im sure you could find a local roaster that could supply something just as good or better.

I suppose there is the wishing well section.

who knows what Andy can scrounge.

I am assuming barako is not a brand name.

sounds interesting but I can see that it may not be a big mover. or it is all pre-sold and rarely gets on the open market.

I can also see that Andy is in the business of selling a reasonable volume reasonably quickly and so this may not fit the bill.

I wonder if there are any expat Filipinos on the forum?

...but its high on my list of "what the heck was that" coffees. Ive had it a couple of times in the last few years and its seriously nasty. I can only imagine that Gezza was drinking it with plenty of sugar or it was roasted with sugar.

The last sample lot I tried was bought over direct (in carry-on luggage) by a roaster I know and it was a premium, specialty grading. No one person in the blind tasting liked it and some of the faces pulled were priceless.

There might be good plantations of Barako somewhere but until I find something drinkable I have no interest in shipping in a lot.

Well I suppose that’s the final verdict.

Perhaps there is an obvious reason why it is not being commercially cultivated. >

I suppose at least it hasn’t come out of some animal’s bottom. ;D

You never know, that might improve it but given that it is as bad as Andy has sampled, you probably wouldnt get any self-respecting Civet eating the stuff.... :P ;D
