How to transport a coffee machine interstate??

Hi,

I recently purchases a second hand HX machine in Adelaide and need to transport it to Brisbane.

I did call a few transport companies but they want an arm and a leg to move it! (quote 1: $200, quote 2: $400) Obviously a no go.

Since I fly between Brisbane and Adelaide on a weekly basis I can check it in as luggage.  But I dont have the original box and worried about damage.  The machine is a Nuova Simonelli Musica.

Any suggestions on boxing and/or shipping?

Pack/Send will be able to supply appropriate packaging, but will charge an arm and leg for shipment.

It may still be charged as excess luggage though. Make sure you empty the boiler.

For others needing to ship, e-go seems to work well. Just ensure that you pack well and preferably have your machine on a skid.

Hi Yash, I used e-go.com.au couriers when I needed to transport my Faema to Adelaide from Sydney. Including full insurance it cost me $62 for them to pick it up at an address in Sydney and deliver to their depot in Adelaide 3 days later. It arrived on time, safe and sound, packed in a giant dishwasher box surrounded by big slabs of styrene foam. (perhaps that was overkill!) It will probably be a cheaper option than excess baggage.

The e-go depot in Adelaide is in Thebarton, close to the airport. You can get quotes and book the job online, but you will have to pack it yourself as they dont offer a packing service.

Whatever you decide - I hope you get it home safely.

Thanks Jane, I will give them a call as well.

It will be an excellent backup plan if I cant check the machine in. I have an allowance of around 23kgs so hoping there will be minimal (if any) excess charges.

Also hoping I dont annoy any baggage handlers!

interstate is one thing.. i brought home my diadema junior from perth to jakarta.. via bali.

anyways packing is the most important part of the journey. i had asked a similar question here when i wanted to travel with mine. and Attilio from CosmoreX coffee and his team has been most helpful. they even provided me an video instruction on how to pack it. heres the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqDnCIOzZ8k


i did find an appropriate fitting box on mine. just fitted and put some stereofoam and padded it all up. make sure you put sings of it being fragile and which way up..

i was worried about it being roughed up and tipped to the side during transport etc. when loading the machine to the taxi it was a tight fit with too much stuff to cary. the taxi driver tipped it to the side for a couple of secs before i told him not to.. sometimes big signs have no use.

anyways it got to jakarta with no visible damage and have been using it for 7 months now and doing well. so yeah you can bring it on the plane.. just make sure you pack it up properly. Good Luck!
