    bitter overextraction
    ...how does that work?  Bitterness usually represents underextraction.

    Yes, Im having a very slow day.
    In my experience,
    Underextracted=sour
    Overextracted=bitter

    OK, my mistake- I am very new to the forum - and to whats wrong and why. :-[ Please treat me gently

    I just know I have had many bad (cafe) coffees that taste horribly bitter, burnt or just plain bad.

      Not just your experience, everybodys experience. For some reason I was visualising something different, and not really thinking about it.

      JC, I need to stop posting today.

      Given your incorrect assumptions about pre roast blending and then this gaff it might be a good time to do a bit more reading and a bit less typing

      try not to be discouraged

        Rude and uncalled for.
        Just adding a wink at the end doesnt make it less rude.

          Mistakenly stating as fact things that are incorrect means that the poster should do some more learning before trying to educate people.

          I dont think it was rude and that wasnt my intention, it was called for though.

            Well, considering you incorrectly attributed the pre-blending comment to this user, and you appear to be telling them off for apologising about being new, I maintain it was rude and certainly not called for.

                Id already read it though!

                Though seriously mate, Im not concerned at all. I knew what I was talking about, just was not really with it this morning. Subsequently was typing things without putting thought into what was going onto the page.

                Meh, its all water under a bridge.

                  @mattydv - I wasnt really standing up for you (sorry). I was more concerned at how trentski was choosing to talk to a newbie on our site.

                  Its all cool though, since he was classy enough to apologise to the person he wrongly chastised... oh wait... no he didnt do that bit did he?

                    I think weve missed sin #1. Thou shalt not drink instant.
                    Id go further, I think Nestle and their ilk should not be allowed to use the word coffee, especially when the beverage is instant. I could stir a spoon of Vegemite into a cup of hot water, add milk and I recon I could fool instant drinkers and slight the Vegemite brand all at once.

                      My 7 sins of coffee:
                      -Burnt coffee (obviously stay away from Charbucks)
                      -Oily coffee
                      -Sugar (IMHO, have a hot chocolate otherwise)
                      -Instant coffee (if that is "coffee"
                      -coffee inside an un-clean cup
                      -milk that has been boiled or not heated enough
                      -waiting more than 10 minutes for a coffee
