  • Coffee troubleshooting FAQ?

I thought I had coffee pretty much down pat but am struggling badly trying to master it again.
Switched grinders recently as my previous grinder needed new burrs (long story).

Did a silly thing and bought a Rocky from a non-site-sponsor and now have issues - all user-related, not the grinder itself.

Ive been a CS visitor for ages and have noticed that there isnt a good FAQ or master thread of troubleshooting issues. There are sporadic threads but no master index or FAQ.

Topics Id like to see in an FAQ thread:

    - Troubleshooting (eg. too quick, too slow, too bitter, too watery, etc)
    - Machine comparions
    - Site sponsors list (OK, its on the left, but in the FAQ would be good)
    - Grinder comparisons

    Have to agree,
while there is a "search" function which can help in locating specific topics of interest,
it would be great if there could be some kind of FAQ section for each area, eg machines, grinders, brewing, roasting.

However I am not sure of the logistics to make this work, and the "search" function is there to help with this kind of thing anyway.

    Regards
    Bullitt

How about a sticky with a hit list (i.e. the best threads)?

p.s. should include the mantra: fresh beans -> grinder -> technique -> brew = success!

Whilst were on the topic of suggestions for the CS site, Ive got one Id like to bring up. And Ive had a discussion with one of the moderators about this and I keep meaning to PM Andy over it but maybe some other thoughts on it would be good too.

Im wondering if we could see some of the name tags for the amount of forum posts we have getting updated to modern times! :P

Im specifically talking about the one "Sir Roastalot". Id just like to state that I think its going to look very amusing for my CS name "Scoota Gal" to have "Sir Roastalot" under it, if I ever get there! ;D

And seeing as Im not the only female hanging around here, Im wont be the only one to get that name!

And, Id like to add that I dont think "Lady Roastalot" is a good alternative. :

On some forums its possible to give a "personal" title that doesnt change with post totals.
            This may be an option.
            Ive outgrown post totals.

We can certainly change the Sir Roastalot title. Lets hear some suggestions for what its replacement should be.

Java "Roasts a lot, but aint no Sir!" phile
Toys! I must have new toys!!!

                    Re: Coffee troubleshooting FAQ?

Well, Java, Im good at seeing things that need fixing but when it comes to imaginative names Im a bit lacking there...

But I like the Ms Snob moniker that Baristacrat mentioned!

And I agree with Thundergod too. Forum names are becoming a bit passe as they are definitely no indication of your abilities just how many times youve bothered to leave a message. Still, it is a forum and thats the way things work I suppose! ;D

                      Re: Coffee troubleshooting FAQ?

The green bean, roasts a bit, roasts a lot labels dont really reflect the whole breadth of the site do they?

If it is a Coffee Snobs site why not have some labels that reflect the whole bit? Fresh Snob, New Snob, Growing Snob, Ageing Snob, Mature Snob, etc and other variations on the theme?

That is if you have to have labels and if posting represents some perceived level of maturity!!! All a bit macho for me, like size is important. The quality of peoples post will say it all wont they?

I think length of membership is important though and site sponsors and moderators.

                          Re: Coffee troubleshooting FAQ?

It may just be me, but i dont seem to be able to get more search results than 15 at a time, now if searhing over a larger period, you may get more than 15 junk results before hitting a post/thread that matches what you were after.

Would it be possible to increase this.

                            Re: Coffee troubleshooting FAQ?

Lots of forums have a sticky post in the General forum (like this one) - thats probably the least effort for the maximum result.

What about Roast Mistress for the ladies?
If a general change is in the offing, why not Roast Master for the lads?
                              Just thought.
