    Welcome to CoffeeSnobs Starbugs [smiley=thumbsup.gif],

Hmmm, harking back to my bad ol Sunbeam days :P, I used to use the stuff they sold in supermarkets and Kmart/BigW, etc to descale their brand of steamndry irons. Used to work pretty well. Most of us with dual purpose, single "copper or brass" boiler machines like the Silvia for example, generally use Citric Acid diluted with water. If you do a search through the forum with citric acid as your key-words, Im sure youll turn up some useful threads,

    Mal.

      Espresso Clean @home
Espresso Clean @home is designed to clean, descale and sanitise the brewing group, handles, filters, the milk line system and boilers of domestic and small office machines. It has a unique application where the machine has no programmed cleaning cycle (as distinct from descaling or decalcification cycle) and the brewing group cannot be removed for cleaning.

Thanks Mal & Tanghy for your inputs.

I was told the type of aluminium thermoblock that I have is coated with a protective layer. Therefore, acid based descaling agent can be safely used without etching away the aluminium.

        Cheers.
