I am wishing for some decaf, any decaf, as long as it tastes nice. There has been many a time that I have craved for coffee getting home from work, only to resist the temptation as it will cause insomnia and render me a vegetable the following day.

Re: Decaf please
How do you find the overall taste and body of decaff compared with the regular beans, Bloop.
I havent had any decaff for a year, and often get the urge to try again.
But I fear it mightnt compare favourably.

Re: Decaf please
Ditto insomiacs,
I have been getting used to double shots of late ( i think my tastebuds have been ablated ) and when I get home a double shot of that monsooned robusta that was recently polled is insanity. How about polling a good decaf so that the get home late / dying for a good coffee crew can avoid the all night shopping infomercial run. I love a good coffee but not at the expense of watching a 30 minute advertisement to buy a pillow ?? How ironic eh..
So who is up for a decaf to blend the down the home shopping effect for the late home crew? Of course those without young kids can sleep in, some of us might prefer a flavoursome busy parents blend...
Fantastic coffee though eh.. I think Im getting obsessive compulsive

Re: Decaf please
Weve had decaf polled a couple of times in the past.
From memory, both were Swiss Water Decaf - Espresso blend 1.
It makes a very passable cup, but we may struggle to show enough demand for an entire bag.
I bought 5kg quite some time ago and I still have nearly 2kg left.
Ive been roasting a small amount every week or 2 for my wife who is pregnant and does not want to drink full strength during the pregnancy.

Re: Decaf please
Yes, the decaf might be on the cards next month but it is often twice the price and dare I say... only half the coffee
The last decaf that we had was a single origin Peru that I found better (to my taste) than the Swiss water blend (which is also ok for a decaf).
Ill see what good decaf we can scrounge from the suppliers before the next poll.

Re: Decaf please
Andy, I dont know where you would source it, but I recently had an OUTSTANDING Sulawesi Toraja Decaf (from Sweet Marias in the US) that had been shipped to a "new decaf processing plant in Mexico" for decaffeination. Superb body and flavor . . . none who were offered samples could tell that this was a decaffeinated coffee. (Tom at Sweet Marias cant say enough good things about this Mexican processor.)

Re: Decaf please
if anyone in sydney wants a small sample of decaf (the SWP blend that we polled a while aog), PM me. my last little bit is sitting unused, as I decided that coffee after midday, even decaf, wasnt something I enjoyed....... and its too hard to roast little batches just on the off chance that Id drink it.

Re: Decaf please
I have bought a number of small lots of decaf from Sweet Marias over the last year or so. They are prepared by what he calls the water process.(Apparently the name swiss water process is patented) Anyway I can really vouch for these coffees. They have extraordinary flavours for decaf and I bet if you were to have one served up blind most wouldnt pick it as a decaf.
Is it possible to get any of these Andy?

Re: Decaf please
I met with a supplier today who had a few decaf samples but doesnt really sell it but I will continue to search for a great one.
The "standard" Swiss Water decaf that we do is very good but I would like to try a good single origin water decaf next time. (not too keen on chemical decaf myself)
The search for great "unleaded beans" continues....

Re: Decaf please
I have tried decaff SWP espresso blend and the standard Columbian SWP,
and I prefer the single origin, for 2 reasons,
1. I like to blend low caffeine coffee for several reasons, and I find the SWP Columbian will allow the falvour of the other beans to come through, so I can have a morning and late afternoon/early evening coffee without losing sleep, (So for those who think all unleaded is a bit bland, try blending it with something else, especially if you like double shots). I tried it initally because I needed to, but have since found there is also a few notes covering this area on Sweet Marias site.
2. Also I find it a bit easier to roast the single origin in my modified popper.
By taking it to the verge of second crack I find I can use it for plunger/vac pot or in Silvia and generally it achieves the desired result.
I have not however tried any of the WP stuff that Sweet Marias have been selling and would really like to try something along those lines.
