Hi guys,
Ive bought a La Pavoni professional, which is great fun, and I am enjoying. Im currently exploring my way through the different beans at Jaspers, on Brunswick St. I also know that Lygon St has a coffee shop (Grinders), and the Vic Market sells beans too. Obviously my criteria is first, quality, then if that is the same, price!
I see you all participate in the market for green beans - I think I would like to go into this too but for the time being, I need pre-roasted beans.. How fresh are roasted coffee beans usually? And how long do they keep after being roasted? About a week I have read.. The beans that I currently get grinded at Jaspers seem amazingly fresh. Its like coffee is a food that goes stale in about 2 days. But in bean form, I take it buying from Jaspers once a week is not too tragic. The problem is, they only sell 250g bags minimum, and I dont have a grinder just yet.
I have two questions for you all:
1) Where do you buy good pre-roasted beans in Melbourne?
2) Where can I buy a Rocky, at a decent price in Melbourne, so that I have a place to return it to when and if it ever breaks.
I have a tamper coming from Greg Pullman, looking forward to getting it!
Im just working all this out..!
Thanks a lot!

And I generally get my coffee mail order. Express post is wonderful and if the roaster has done his/her job and been good enough to send me their freshly roasted beans, I am no worse off than if I lived in the city.
