    Re: the affogatto

i use peters vanilla ice cream. its oh so creamy. so they have a vanilla bean vanilla now? gee i must look into that. sometimes i will add a bit of chocolate powder to the shot before i pour it onto the ice cream. other times a teaspoon of kalua drizzled over makes it for me. anyway the whole family now always ask me for an affogatto. so i guess thats testament. i will try the honey idea.

It is called Movenpick (on the container it says it originates from Switzerland, so you willa ctually find a few symbols on top of the letters) and it is a new range. It only comes in 100g containers at certain retailers and 5 litre containers that places that sell ice-cream by the scoop would use. So is probably not readily available but if you find it than I am sure you will enjoy it. It was very enjoyable when I had it for the first time today. The Peters extra creamy is great though as you say. I am sure there are comparable qualities with other manufactuers but need to remain loyal to my dad, plus I get it at the right price

                Re: Affogato

kool so the thread has been merged. i did search for affogato but mispelt it obviously. anyway i found that the peters plain vanilla was creamy enough as it was. in fact when the ice cream melts theres always a layer of cream on top of the drink. but the vanilla bean aspect of this movenpick u speak of should be explored. i wonder how a few drops of vanilla extract would affect the affogato. kahlua, baileys, honies, chocolate syrups, frangelico, cobram creme are all potential embellishments for this wonderful espresso drink.

if its too hot.. chuck ur affogatto into a blender with some milk and a few ice cubes and u have one awesome summer frappe. mmmmm

                  Re: Affogato

You all go me thinking and since I have never tried an Affogato I just had to make one whilst I read through the posts. I only had Chocolate vhip vanilla Icecream. Not badbut boy does it cool the espresso down quickly, (I know you have just pured it over icecream, of course its gonna get cold.)

Anyway I enjoyed it. I think I will have to try one from the experts of Epic though. I am still not making the espresso the way I want it but this is because I still am manual grinding my beans until I get my Sunbeam EM0480. not long now, I would have saved enough money to buy one by the end of March. (Hopefully)

You wont be disappointed... Try the vanilla bean ice cream and then work your way through the different flavours.

Might have to pop up there and get one myself.

                        Re: Affogato

Love em, especially when Melbourne is 38C for a few days and it too hot for a normal brew.
Have only used good valilla icecream.......its also a bean, that must mean something!
I recommend a shot of chilled Vodka with it, it really seems to enhance the espresso flavour, but Id probably use any alcohol just for scientific purposes of course!

LOL - ya I love to corretto the affogato too. Coffee and alcohol are such good friends.

                            Re: Affogato

Was very hot here in Adelaide on the weekend and so I made some of these for some visitors without even realising it had a name. Might have used a bit more icecream than just a scoop though. But they were so nice I had one in the arvo as well. Ran us out of icecream. It was the Peters Extra Creamy.

today i tried using a teaspoon of galliano amaretto (almond liquor) on top of my one shot one scoop affogato. interesting. the almond taste blends in with the coffee quite well.

                                Hazelnut/chocolate.
I can see myself serving up a few hazelnut affogati.
