    Re: Affogato

I too like affogatos, I tried a variation recently. Went for a coffee on the south perth foreshore, and they had what they called an 8-ball, basically an affogato, but sitting by the river on a Sunday morning it went down a treat.

Sounds excellent Andy. I remember tasting my first Affogato nearly 20 years ago at the Three Monkeys at West End in Brissy and I was hooked.

    Cheers

Tonight after dinner we set the bar for affogato...

Double Yemen shot, vanilla icecream, drizzled in melted chocolate, sprinkled with crushed nuts.

yes, Freestyle has turned the affogato into a true dessert experience. Has anyone tried the Merlo range of ice cream yet?
Id say there still a fair way to go though...

My experience with Merlos ice-cream is in their affogato, which has been reasonably good.

Campos do a mean affogato, or a piccolo affogato with I think vanilla gelato.

had one for dessert out on sunday night, from an average place near home.
what really impressed be though was the barista pulled the shot, looked into the espresso cup, rolled it around a little, and decided to ditch it......
made me think that maybe the guy making the coffee actually knew a thing or two....

    Re: Affogato

Affogato has to be one of the best ways to relax after a big meal. I had a ritual going for a while where lunch was a large lamb kebab, then a 5min walk to the Merlo for a very solid Affogato, then a 10min walk back to the office.

I think Ive payed $15 for an Affogato a few times. Its the one from Freestylers but the $15 buys you a scoop of macadamia, a scoop of vanilla, a scoop of chocolate, a shot of your favourite liqueur and a relatively unimpressive shot of Lavazza. It is a touch steep but youre also paying for the atmosphere (really quite good for a 1st/2nd date vibe) and the macadamia ice-cream is pretty special.

    Re: Affogato

I made my first Affogato at home today, and yes it was wonderful. I think my shot ran a little bit too long and became a bit thin but was still very nice. (I havent tried before now as we do not get Icecream too often (trying to become a thinner person and all that jazz) but today I thought I would treat myself to one.

Will have to experiment around a little. The joys of experimenting with Coffee. ahhhhhhhhh

Ive loved affogatos for a loooooooong time, but Ive found that most cafes dont know what youre talking about when you ask for one!

Unfortunately, thats mainly because a coffee culture hasnt taken off in regional queensland areas yet! haha.

But seriously, THE best affogato Ive ever had is from a restaurant in Rockhampton Qld, the beef capital! heh.. I know, how suprising is that!

It came out in a biiiiiiig tall cocktail glass, filled to the top with big scoops of quality ice cream, my espresso neatly ready on a seperate saucer, and a shot of baileys as well. $12 later I felt great (despite knowing I got ripped off!) heh.

I pack the ice cream hard and tight into the glass. Then pour a double espresso on top. You get to see the crema on the espresso and you can see that its a good shot as well. Also you taste the espresso on top and then comes the party...ice cream

I liked mine but only managed to sell one other.
Everyone was too engrossed in eating the massive gelato cake.

I ended up only making 4 coffees, 2 affogati and 2 teas.

I still have a heap of hazelnut and chocolate gelato left s will be making a few more over the next few days.
