Just a snippet of news probably more for the Melbournian Cafephiles.
The famous Duralex Glass (which are made in France) are no more.
Apparently the factory in France has gone into liquidation and these glasses are no longer in production.
The trend for using these glasses to serve Caffe Lattes started in Melbourne (I believe - probably at either Pelligrinis or University Cafe) and is almost standard as the glass of choice for serving Caffe Lattes in most outlets in Melbourne - the fashion spread throughout the to the rest of Australia.
People who know about the glass know what I am talking about - unfortunately I am too much of a technophobe to be able to post a picture of this glass - I will leave this to someone more technically skilled than I. :-[
If anyone can find these glasses at the usual suppliers such as "Hotel Agencies", "General Merchandise" I would snap up as many as you can, but I think they have already been snapped up - "Chefs Hat" in South Melbourne have already run out.
There are substitutes available but they do not have the memories or cache of the famous Duralex shape.
I am a bit saddened by all this because the first memory I have of my father is pulling down shots on an old La Cimbali into these glasses at our old Restaurant back in the 60s.
Vale Dad, Vale Duralex.
