Re: Turkish Coffee (How to & thoughts)

    Hi all
I was looking for a place to get an Ibrik from and hazchem suggested Bravo coffee in Enmore. Thanks for that. They have copper & stainless ones and in different sizes. I got a medium sized copper one for $18.00 made in Oz.
Also got some medium roast fine ground coffee to try. Will see if the Rocky grinder can grind that fine later in the week.

      Hi all

Well I have now made by first Turkish coffee and its luscious. Its easy to make. I used for two people 1 heaped tspoon sugar and two of coffee in 2.5 espresso cups of water volume. I used a medium roast coffee from the place I bought the ibrik from. My wife really liked it lots and well be taking it on our caving trips to Wombeyan and Jenolan Caves as it sits very well on the Trangia stove.

I looked up a bit on what word to use; ibrik, ibriq etc and the following links are interesting:

        Hi Lucinda
thanks for the adelaide spotting for the electric ibrik. Unfortunately I am in Melbourne.
I have about 5 different sizes of the briki, the most you can get out of the largest is about 6-8. The idea of the electric one is to cater for large groups like 15-20. My husbands Aunt swears by hers, and yes she claims it makes the best kemaki (layer on top). So I am curious to try one, I think she has 2 different sizes, if I can ever find one, shes had hers awhile and cant tell me where she got them from.
You never know when you need to make 15 or so.
As for the coffee the whole clan uses the pulverised stuff, we use Turkish coffee by bushells. When last in greece they to used the same stuff.

My family has been using the Bushells stuff as long as I can remember.

I have never see an electric briki.
As for making 15 or so, my aunts have never had a problem quickly making that many when there is a large gathering for certain occasions.

Thinking harder about it though, my father used top have a Birko food and drink heater.

They have a sealed element as opposed to other types of jugs/kettles.

Does your aunts appliance look like this:

Burgerman, I can give you the number of the shop where I saw it and maybe you can call and get a contact number for the distributer who will be able to tell you where they are available in Melbourne.

He can just look up Birko in Google and White pages.

There are some numbers for up here (not far from me) and also a Melbourne 1300 number IIRC.
