I got this as a text message from a mate today and just had to share it:

"You guys have turned me into a coffee snob... Just had a Gloria Jeans coffee with my grandpop and nearly took it back and threw it at them. Ignorance was bliss!"

My gf is such an ignoramus. She cant tell the difference between instant and a nice doppio ristretto flat white....the day I convert her is the day I will win the WBC :P

Actually...Im in the process of educating a friend who wants to be a barista...so getting him to read some of the articles I started reading etc...then hopefully get him on a machine where I can spend some one on one time with him getting his skills up to scratch to get a job.

can we go to far though? i cant remember the last time i went out and simply enjoyed a coffee with friends... THE COFFEE has become the focus (for me anyway)...

hence friends dont invite me for coffee anymore...

only argument I can think of is as a paying consumer gone are the days of being able to go out for something because you couldnt get it at home, these days we can do better at home, take far too many cafes with underwilling staff that just press buttons and serve cups of brown stuff.
Being a snob you have become an enthusiast much like car/bike owners that wont take their pride and joys to just "any " mechanic, I myself wait for at least 5 positive opinions before taking any scoot of mine to a mechanic,
same goes with coffee, how many of you check out what machine they have, look for the telltale white crusty on the milk jug, prescence of a tamper and a trained barista before laying over your dollars?
I used to go to GJ s Michelles and some other one I forget the name, now in Sydney there are only 4 shops I will buy coffee from as I know they do a great job, otherwise Ill buy water and wait till I get home.
