Do they need any further publicity? :-?

Just being in the recent postings list gives them publicity- even if its bad (is there any such thing :-/) ???

How about we just let this thread die...The leeches really dont deserve it.....

tempestv8, in this siutation I dont feel powerless. Come to think of it I actually never feel powerless. I was able to do a few things that I hope will eventually make a difference. I also enjoy getting "emotional" about things.

I think that the way people react (or dont) to situations helps them deal with it. If hitting the delete key works for you thats fine by me. I just didnt like the suggestion to take a chill pill.

I dont think that the spam ruined our day as such, in fact Id be guessing that a lot of us felt better after having our vent here and lodging our complaint. Nothing like a bit of action to brighten a gloomy day....

I have to agree with tempestv8 here.

I hate spam as much as the next person, but hey, it is never going to ruin my day.

Now, buying a cap for $3.50 and getting a cup of scorched, sudsy froth that tastes of last weeks grounds, that I get upset about!

    Scott.

tempestv8, I guess you might also welcome those pesky telemarketing phone calls too.   :P

I dont pay for free to air tv or radio and I dont own the billboards, so what goes in or on these things is up to the owners.  I accept the commercials and advertisments in return for the ability to listen to or watch without charge.  I can also choose not to watch.

Conversely, I pay for my email address.  It belongs to me, and therefore I am the one who has the right to say what goes in it.

As for taking a chill pill - maybe youve taken one too many as you seem apathetic?  Apathy is insipid and ultimately destructive.  Stand up and shout for what you believe in I say.  Otherwise we WILL end up living in a world where this type of behaviour becomes acceptable, yet never should be.

Someone help me down off my soapbox!

    Dont get me wrong, Dennis.

I dont welcome spam any more than anyone of us do.

I dont condone people stealing my email address either. Its just deplorable.

But at the same time, I cant control the actions of others who chose to push their presence over others.

Lets look at things that I have to pay for but am powerless to fight against - over inflated petrol prices, tolled roads that should be funded out of petrol taxes, doubled water rates due to poor management of existing water resources, bombardment of porn on the internet, whaling under research pretences, phenomenal marketing budgets of cigarette and alcohol industry, the list simply goes on and on.

So my way of "fighting" back is to find alternative ways of getting around these issues - sometimes its to walk instead of driving, recycling, filtering, not buying certain products, and just using my delete key. I dont stand for it either but if it comes my way, I deal with it without getting so emotional about it. Its not apathy, its just my way of dealing with it.

From my perspective, I"m not happy about being spammed, but Im a also a bit disappointed by all the hoo ha thats resulted from this. Its really not such a big deal, in the whole scheme of things.

Im currently investigating spam filters to see if I can filter out junk from coming into my in-tray.

Let me remind you this isnt the only site they harvested email addresses from.

I use a a different address for CG. That one has been spammed too.

I am with you JavaB, it is not the spam, it is the incredibly unethical conduct from someone who wants to be treated as a serious business.

Shouldnt be tolerated by us and the more noise we can make about it the more their reputation, if they had one, suffers and their shady conduct is highlighted.

Ive lodged my complaint. The other penalty this mob gets is having to write off a large number of coffee minded people as future users of their site....

And Thundergod is correct - their site is way too slow.

    tempestv8,

Spam isnt the main problem here..... and spam itself doesnt upset me (god knows I get enough in the enquiries account for coffeetampers.....)

BUT coffeetampers is a public email address- just like newspapers, TV, bill boards are in the public domain....

Our email addresses are provided here so MEMBERS of CS can send personal messages to other members....

It would appear to me that this firm joined CS purely to obtain a list of our email addreses (by data mining) to spam us - and thats what I find offensive. They have only made a couple of posts (apologising for their actions) and have contributed nothing in the way of useful information for the benefit of other members - they are leeches - pure and simple!!!

They want to benefit from membership in a way that Andy never intended. They are abusing his trust for financial gain - a very low life act indeed!!!

And that is why Im so angry with what has happened.... if they obtained my email address from a public arena, I wouldnt be concerned - but these "low lifes" chose what I believe to be an illegal and certainly immoral method...... and their actions should be condemned, and no financial or other benefit should be derived from those actions.

    Settle down guys.

No need to get all upset about a little spam. You guys are drinking too much coffee to get upset by something that can be easily dealt with by either:

    1. Click on delete, and mail which you dont want to read just disappears.

    2. Open the mail and read it because you have decided you do want to read it.

Theres spam and noise everywhere even when we dont want it. Take a drive in the city and youll be accosted with huge bill boards that companies have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, to get a product or service advertised to you. To me, thats spam. I can see its there but Id prefer that it wasnt there.

Read a news paper and you decide whether you want to read the advertisements or not.

Even in your office, you will get work generated emails in your in-tray which is practically spam.

So just take a chill pill, peoples.

If you really feel that strong about spammers, dont turn on your TV, dont listen to the radio, forget about going out side the house and just live on a remote island.
