    Re: Coffee drinking salutation?

I havent stopped thinking about this topic. In fact I have been trying a few words.

Ive found that using the name  of a particular bean can be very satisfying, especially if you are about to consume an eponymous brew!

Yirgacheffe has a ring to it, an acknowledgement from deep within, this is truly great!

Harrar can be pronounced in bright and joyful anticipation, a celebration.

I have always insisted that Harrar should be pronounced in the manner of a Famous Five novel.

      HURRAH!

If you said "Yirgacheffe" the response is likely to be "Gesundheit".

... any drinking moment in Japan or Sth Korea hears a resounding kam-pae, comparable in translation to the Aussie equivalent of skull

... but true cultural meaning is nearer to the more sit-back, relax, enjoyable version of enjoy ... & sip, & enjoy the company of good friends!

& of course, then theres the coffee!

A lot of us (like me) are enjoying the Malabar beans at the moment.

However, saluting with Malabar may bring to mind (among non-CSers) the Malabar sewerage treatment plant or the location of Long Bay gaol. :P

there.s a saying in dutch: moord bak ~ which literally translates to "murder cup of coffee" or in local parlance it would suggest that "this cup of coffee is so strong it will kill you!" so moord bak gets my vote!

                    Re: Coffee drinking salutation?

oh, gosh, dont blame the coffee for the bloodbath... ;D ;D
no, the coffee itself wont kill you, but "other people would kill to get a cup of coffee like that!!"

the word "moord" or murder in this context is the equivalent of the English "killer" as in great, fantastic...

yep, "moord-bak" has my vote, or even "moord-bakkie" which means the same: great coffee!

or, how about the simple :"cuppa" as salutation??

Peaberry much = could be used during cupping sessions or CS events as a polite alternative to..........."I need to go to the toilet"

::wondering if mysore nuggets could be politely included in conversation in a similar fashion,...hmmmm::
