Better get into production WSully - you can market them with:

"With the WSully set you can use them all at once!"  ;D

Just one more question. I am curious as to those who have the full set whats the highest number dosing tool you have used?

Ive used #28 which means I have to grind fairly fine (single basket) but the shots are good.
I dont have the pro set but I use the #6 from the home set and its a pretty deep curve. Im not sure which number on the Pro set that corresponds to but judging from the photo near the top of this thread it would definitely be in the high 20s.

As others have mentioned underdosing by that much requires a fine grind but I like the results Im getting.

Re: Scott Callaghan Dosing Tools FTW

I have both sets (dont ask me why?) and #6 on the home set corresponds to #21 on the full set. So my #28 is taking a lot out but Ive found sweeter shots with this dosage and a fine grind than using #20 and a courser grind.

The difference between #20 and #28 is about 5mm in the center of the convex curve. So there is a only a small variation between each one going from #20 to #28 which allows for fine tuning.

On a double basket I only use a range from #1 (dead flat) to about #5. Its the single basket that requires all the underdosing but Im no longer wasting coffee when I make a cup for myself.

Im enjoying the experimenting. I guess thats the scientist, I.T. side of me.

What I particularly enjoy about playing around with Dose(and grind) though, is that you can expand the available flavour profile of a particular bean by an extraordinary amount sometimes and there are times when Im looking for a particular style of espresso without the mucking around that swapping to different beans involves.

It pays to experiment with every roast, bean, etc that you have access to. You just never know what you might be missing out on.....

            Mal.

Thats good to know. There have been times when Ive wished I could have underdosed just a bit more. Might make the Pro set worthwhile then.

Is this using a single or double basket? If I used a chopstick with a single basket then I wouldnt be able to insert the group handle.

Yeah with a double basket. Have only probably used the single basket once or twice ever... dont see the point in using it really..

Its simple, I hate wasting coffee. I rarely make more than one cup at a time and I was determined to learn how to use the single basket. Thats where the dosing tools came into play. I can now produce great shots over and over again with only subtle variations in the grind or dosing tool. Its also easy to switch back to the double basket with a slight adjustment in the grind and an almost flat dosing tool.

If you like it stronger then use the double basket all the time but if you are throwing out single shots, as a lot do, then that is a real waste.

I dont want to open a "can of worms" about using the single basket but I feel that its worth pursuing. Understandably this site generally recommends (beginners especially) using doubles as it is a lot easier to consistently get good shots but some also are a bit too quick to dismiss the single baskets as a viable alternative.

General rule of thumb that these can help with. If your coffee is too fresh and your not getting the full flavor profile as a result; Use a steeper curve/finer grind.

                          Absolutely mupp man!

Even if it is a little on the stale side I still go higher number tool / finer grind. This gives a sweeter profile
