Most cafes around Perth serve food and their coffee is an afterthought, thankfully several new great coffee outlets have appearance with passionate coffee people running them...............

    Yes hb,

Its criminal what some people do with such fantastic equipment >..... Youd just like to leap over the counter and show em how to do it properly. But, I guess if the passion isnt there :-?, theres not a lot you can do,

    Cheers,
    Mal.

Thanks all for the advice. My trusty aeropress turned out to be the
most reliable source of half way decent coffee at SB

I tried a couple of places. There is a Dome in the hotel itself. I asked
for a double espresso pulled short ("like a ristretto"). Out came a
capuccino cup half full. Oh well ...

There is a restaurant called Zanders opposite, right at the end
of SB Road. Used to be Villa Bianchi. Had dinner there once,
pretty good. Tried an espresso tio finish, it was respectable.
They had valved bags of their own coffee (Diamattina I think)
which were nicely puffed up, so could be fresh, perhaps worth
a try. No good for morning kickstart though.

One of the conference exhibitors had the wit and wisdom to bring
along a Vittoria-fuelled 2 group Faema, which attracted a lot of
people to their stand, but unfortunately they forgot that the
barista needs skills. I did persuade him to pull the shot before
blonding at 10 seconds. Oh well again.

I had a careful look while travelling in the bus along SB Road for
crafty_butchers house but must have missed the sign of the snob
    on the chimney

Did manage to get into Perth city one evening, but all the places I
wanted to get to were closed. Better luck next time I hope.
    to get

Pack your own, nothing worth checking out around Ob City!! If you get into Perth there are a few worth checking out.

Yes, the insurance policy is already packed

I will nonetheless look around and report back if
    I have any luck ...

I have an important decision to make; whether or not to pack my
aeropress, home roast and grinder to go to Perth tomorrow for a
conference, at the Rendevouz Observation City Hotel in
    Scarborough Beach.

I would consider not doing that if there is worthwhile espresso
either at, or within walking distance of, this hotel.

Grendels coffee map shows nothing within cooee, a bad omen
I suspect. Local insight appreciated!   thanks
Id take it anyway as an insurance policy which protects against loss of taste buds due to bad
    coffee ;D.

As a wise person told me, and a rule I live by:
Its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it 8-).
