Beware of Iveco, we have had one from new for 4 years. It has had 2 new complete aircon systems, 8 fuel tanks, the turrent completely resprayed due to paint peel, broken gear box mount, numerous suspension problems, 3 radiators, fatigue in the body and on it goes. The repair shop that fixes the van gets on average one van per week from the dealer for warranty repairs
We too are looking at an Isuzu truck.

A guy who fits or hydraulicks at work has a Iveco an his company is changing to Isuzu light Truck, while the Iveco cab chassis has a payload of 5 tonnes the turbo and gearbox couldnt cope so a fews years old and its had a new gearbox and two turbos.Seems it can carry 5tonne just not all the time and these hydro guys have a lot of gear.

I looked at a Iveco Daily today
    (insert Arthur Daley flashback here)

They look good but boy are they BIG.

I went to "Van World", corny but a good place to see a whole pile of new and secondhand vans in a row. Run around with a tape messure and make sure a pallet fit between the arches.

One "gotcha" I found today is that all second hand vans in Victoria are not covered by any car yard warranty. Commercial vehicles are exempt so if it blows-up in a month, bad luck!

Depends how you define cheap Mal!

I believe they range from about $42k for 8 cubic mtrs of space in the back, to about $52k for 15 cubes. Seem to recall reading somewhere that their light comm chassis are a consolidated version of their heavy commercial counterparts - so youre right, a bloody good & strong workhorse Way out of my budget though

Now, this IS a workhorse and designed from the ground up to do the job, not adapted from some sort of multi-purpose chassis.... Dont expect they would be too cheap though :-?

    Mal.

Although, this doesnt seem too bad

Even used ones look pretty reasonable....http://www.motorsm.com/AUS/cars/used...y.asp?aid=6622

As a side note over here in the states various agencies are now going after people who make their own bio-fuels to collect the taxes that are due on them. Theres multiple taxes that are due on fuels and it matters not if they are homemade or made by one of the big boys.
In theory the taxes are also due here but Ive not heard of anyone trying to collect.

    Andy, another quick suggestion...

Have you looked into the Iveco Daily light commercial vans? Bloke up the road uses one for his water courier business, & he raves about its grunt, durability, & reliability. Heres a link where you can download some specs:

    http://www.iveco.com.au/daily_van.htm

Think theyre based in Dandenong down your way

    Cheers,
    Tony

Free used oil is also getting hard to come by. Not too long ago restaurants were paying to have a company haul off their used oil. Then along came the home brewers who would take it for free. As demand picked up businesses were quick to take note and now theyre paying restaurants for their used oil.

Your mileage will of course vary and your reality may bear little resemblance to mine but beware the bumps in the road.

I was I havent cooked up any for a while but still have some. The Pug has a leaky fuel pump on dino diesel but seals up when run on bio - guess I need to make some more BTW 40ish cpl makes it pretty good too. As for the warranty issues not sure but the Renault should certainly be fine as it is mandatory to have Bio in all the dino supplies as the ULSD was destroying pumps and injectors far too fast (sulphur = lubricity agent .5% bio returns ULSD to High sulphur levels of lubricity).

Also as you can now purchase it far more readily it would be hard to prove against you. A friend of mine has run his 307hdi on home brew since new with no issues.

Slightly off topic... but are you running a Landcruiser and a Peugeot on biodiesel?

    Too cool Neil!

You might have just created a monster though.

I wonder what that would do to my factory warranty if I buy a new van?

Go the diesel then you can get stuck into making your own Biodiesel

Ive driven a VW Transporter TDI on many occassions doing deliveries for work. Lots of grunt and plenty of space. Non-turbo in a VW Transporter and youll be struggling.

Also fits the no windows criteria...but it is a real pain when trying to turn or change lanes...massive blind spot. Good turning circle and can parallel park in the thing no problems.
